TRIP TO TORONTO. WHAT TO DO...
Most underated cities in N.America are Ottawa and Halifax .
Some Axpona thoughts
Rega RS-5 is a very good speaker for the classical music lover, the RS-3 is even better in a small to medium room.
Amps with short warm up time 4 critical listening
Van Alstine 600 has a warm up time of about a 2 minutes.
Aging and Treble and Income?
HiFi is driven by the fact that few people listen to live acoustic music, speakers geared to reality, like say the Rega RS line, aren't big sellers.Ones voiced to reproduce amplified rock concerts, say like Paradigms ,are.
Another audio dealer closes his shop
The rich and super-rich already have 3-4 systems, if they even care about music,high-end audio prices are beyond 90 % of all american budgets, except for a few nuts like me.
AR the Turntable - worth it?
Hifiharv, just so ! I doubt if those B&O's reproduced anything below 80hz or so.Might have disturbed the Lawrence Welk set.
Help me pick some speakers
Low end on Preludes is slighty less, low 40's maybe in most rooms, but MUCH tighter, faster and more "tuneful" than the 2 you mentioned. A hard-core headbanger would prefer the rough and ready 100"s, they are voiced for rock allright and thats wha...
Help me pick some speakers
Oh, I forgot, Siverlines compare to Paradigm about like a BMW compares to a Chevy.Owned them too.
Help me pick some speakers
Silverline Preludes are probaly unbeatable at used under 1K.VERY mususical, far faster and clearer than Vandersteen, PSB, with better bass than Dynaudio standmounters.I've owned all of the above.
AR the Turntable - worth it?
As a grad student I worked part-time for a large snooty B &O dealer who sold MANY of their skinny -arm expensice TT's.One day before work I brought my AR-XA with Shure 91-ed in, was a lot of surprised faces as it wiped those B&O out thru t...
What is a better route, tube or SS preamp?
Nonsencical my butt, acoustic music requires ambience retrival that rock doesn't even have.
What is a better route, tube or SS preamp?
If you were into Classical or Jazz, tube would be the way to go. IMHO with your taste in music SS is a much better choice. Tubes are expensive and just an all-around PITA really.
Whats my weak link?
Screams power cords to me, Acoustic Zen used by Classe owners I've known. Zu perhaps also. The MAC power cables sold on here are nice too.
Mozart Fans Only
Das glaub ich auch .
Mozart Fans Only
Dogs have big hearts, Schubert has the most "heart" of all the great composers. Also like dogs, Schubert had not a phoney bone in his body or in his music.God loves us and knowing dogs are "mans best friend",he had to let them in on his greatest e...
