Cartridge Opinions - Sorry
OPFor everyday use, I prefer a more laid back sound and not too in your face. The Benz Micro Wood is an excellent choice giving me plenty of detail and air, it's well balanced, and doesn't draw too much attention to itself. You can get a bargain o...
Are cables really worth their high price because of their geometry?
@hiendmmoe I’ve always wondered why geometry in speaker cables is so important if they sound better un-shielded. Isn’t the geometry suppose to suppress interference from RFI? Wouldn’t shielding do the same thing? The basic geometry in cables and ...
Audio Technica AT33PTG/II MC Cartridge, anyone have it or heard it?
Sounds like you're really liking it! the AT33PTG/2 is a winner and can easily compete with carts up to 2K from smaller boutique manufacturers.
Are cables really worth their high price because of their geometry?
The geometry of a cable is a big determining factor in how a cable will sound, but a complex geometry doesn't mean it's better sounding than a simple geometry. Oftentimes, these complex geometries measure worse than the simple ones.Like most thing...
What tonearm is recommended for the denon 103r
I usually see the DL103R matched with a high mass tonearm due to it being a low compliance cartridge, the SME V seems to be on the lighter side. I'm glad it's working out for you though.
Audio Technica AT33PTG/II MC Cartridge, anyone have it or heard it?
@elliottbnewcombjr I do have an AT33PTG/II in my line up and think it’s a terrific cartridge, Audio Technica gives you a lot for the money especially looking at the specs! This model was only available in Japan and Europe, but it sold so well that...
Owners of Jelco arms?
I'm using the Jelco JAC 501 cable with my TK-850L MKII tonearm. These cables are sturdy and well made, uses high quality parts, and very neutral sounding in the few months I've had them. Unless you're wanting more highs or lacking something in you...
What cable is best?
yes, connectors do make a difference especially if the two in comparison are built differently and use different plating, many run of the mill connectors are very similar and uses gold plating, therefore they sound very similar.I'm a firm believer...
DIY Power cables..Are metal end plugs better than plastic?
If SonarQuest are built like Wattgate, you can simply knock the plastic strain relief piece out to accommodate your larger cable, it will then not look off centered. I wouldn't worry too much about the strain relief unless you plan on unplugging b...
Do expensive cables/wires REALLY make a difference
I've tested many cables over the years, in short, yes cables do make a difference. But it's the material used, the conductors, dielectric, geometry, connectors that determines what a cable sounds like and not the price. I'll go on to say that PR...
What cable is best?
I would say that the better cable would be component and system dependent. So much of this hobby is system dependent and personal preference, go with what sounds better to you. As for my take on cables in general, the materials in the cable and...
Is nylon sheathing for DIY cables just window dressing?
No, you don't need the fancy nylon braided sleeving, they are just cable dress up. A lot of high-end cable manufacturers use them to disguise the cable used underneath or to protect their method of construction and the material used, this is espec...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
@orpheus10 The point of entry to reel to reel is so much more affordable than getting into vinyl. For me, the point of entry is getting a machine capable of playing the new 15 IPS master tape dub. A Tascam BR-20, Otari MX5050 BII, or Technics RS-15...
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?
@johnss Last night I gave my noisy crackle 180 gram a really good cleaning, and whaddya know the crackling went away! I also noticed most of the static was removed from the record which was what I thought causes the crackling. I'll test out more r...
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear?
use your favorite cleaning solution, apply it to LP. spread evenly across the LP surface. Let is sit for 10-15 min then vacuum off.@johnss   That sounds simple enough, I'll give a try shot.
