Should I replace Denon DL-103R with Dynavector DRT-XV1 mounted
That sounds about right, the Dyna smaller sharper more modern stylus equals cleaner, thinner, and more detailed sound. Many of the top flight cartridges uses similar profile. I still really like the Denon sound and can listen to the Denon for a lo...
If you have a rebuilt Garrard or Lenco you need this!
The LDA power supply is an AC regenerator similar to the one Monarchy Audio and CTC Turntable used to carry. It should be excellent in lowering Garrard motor noises allowing the motor to run smoother and quieter, this is audible if you put your ea...
All record weights the same ?
450-500 grams is enough to damp vibrations and light enough to not stress the motor, this is around 1lbs.
Should I replace Denon DL-103R with Dynavector DRT-XV1 mounted
The Dynavector should be a big upgrade over the Denon and a better match with your tonearm as well. The Dynavector uses a modern stylus profile that will dig up a lot more detail than what you're getting now with the Denon. If everything is setup ...
At33ptg II perfect straight out the box
I had the same experience with the At33ptg/II, right out of the box it sounds fantastic and probably the least fussy cartridge I’ve had when it comes to setup. The tonal balance is perfect in my system and most record sounds good with it. It is no...
Tape deck repair in the Chicago area
Many in the tape community uses Soren Wittrup, he used to be in the Chicago area but has relocated a little further out, he should still be within driving distance. I've used Soren myself for my Studer and would use him again the next time I neede...
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment.
You may be able to get away without acoustical treatment in a living room where there is unorganized clutter, but in a dedicated room where you're dealing with parallel walls, sharp corners, flutter echos, bass bump, etc. room treatment is a must....
Apogee Grand: best speaker ever ?
I'm not familiar with the Apogee model lineup but a dear friend of mine uses the Apogee Fullrange driven by gigantic sized Tube Research Labs amps, his system remains one of if not the most memorable audition I've had in the last 15 years. I've li...
Absorb or Diffuse Behind Listening Position?
I would absorb the back wall behind the listening position, you're sitting too close for diffusion to work properly. Bass trap corners if you're in a dedicated room and diffuse everywhere else especially first reflection. It's trial and error and ...
Morch DP-8 arm on a Helix Two turntable
@dover at some point I may try the Morch on the Garrard, I would have to get a 12” wand to fit my plinth. I’ve already made arrangements to trade in the DP-6 for a DP-8 so I’m really looking forward to it.This video may be helpful in setting up th...
What room treatment product have transformed your room or audio system?
Some interesting products mentioned! I haven’t thought of digital room control before.I’ve been listening and adjusting the past few days and have gotten to the point where I’m really satisfied, a combination of panels, bass traps, diffusers, and ...
Morch DP-8 arm on a Helix Two turntable
Nice! I too have Garrard 401 but with a Schick tonearm. Thank you for the info on the DP-8.
Morch DP-8 arm on a Helix Two turntable
@dover I do have a custom phono cable that I use with my DP-6, I’m actually quite satisfied with its performance which is the reason I’m considering the DP-8. Which table and Morch arm tube did you use, I favor the heavy blue dot.
Morch DP-8 arm on a Helix Two turntable
Thank you for sharing your experiences with the DP-8. I'm currently using a 9 inch DP-6 and have really gotten used to it, so the natural upgrade path for me is the DP-8. I don't have the vibration issue you had on my tonearm but it's good to know...
What room treatment product have transformed your room or audio system?
I've experimented with a few different products and the best result so far is a combination of panels, diffusers, bass trap and a lot of time listening and adjusting.Like @noromance I don't recommend acoustic foam, they have a deadening quality an...
