Need evaluation info on Ensemble Megaflux...
John is right about the synergy of Ensemble cables and power conditioning products. I have replaced most everything else I was using with Ensemble in two systems. I have the Megaflux speaker cables in both these systems. It replaced Transparent Re...
Zaikesman's Username Pronunciation Field Guide
I always thought Jeff's last name was Loistarca. I thought it was Spanish.
Budget used amp for Linn's and Rel
There was a Myryad MI-240 for sale here this week. Myryad makes excellent quality integrateds and used it should be around your price range. The MI-240 is 120 watts; the MI-120 is 60 watts.
suggestions for used class A integrated under $2k
I just got a Myryad integrated (the MI-120, 60 watts per channel) for a friend and it is incredibly dynamic and smooth sounding, esp. for the $500 she paid. The MI-240 is 120 watts and can be found for around $1200. Some dealers are running fire s...
Favorite all-in-one remote control?
I have the MX-500 universal remote, I think it's a Theater Master. A search for MX-500 on ebay or google will turn up vendors. I learned about this on the avs and tivo forums (fora?), where it is far and away the most favored universal remote. It ...
VA Beethovens with REL Storm or VA Strauss
I had the Beethovens with a REL Storm III in my fairly large living room (2-channel only) and enjoyed some of the best sound I've heard in my years of audio mania. I had Ayre amplification, which was a great match with the Beethovens. I have never...
getting people into 2 channel audio.....
I have gotten two friends (both women) into two-channel. Both have forsaken their previous boom boxes, but one still has and loves her Bose CD changer Acoustic Wave thing. But she appreciates her "real" system too. Friend #1 was on a very limited ...
Speakers: What's MOST important to you?...
Non-flabby bass, along with non-bright treble. I have heard many many speakers with a great high end and midrange, but fuzzy, flabby bass that I don't want to spend years trying to correct with room treatments, different amps, cables, power cords,...
Which Of These Three Amp Stands ?
I had Sound Anchors make me a cusom amp stand for my ARC VT-100, and I have Sistrum stands underneath my floorstanding speakers. I think both are way ahead of the rest. I so like the Sistrum philosophy that I replaced the supplied spikes on my Sou...
Which Tube Amp?
You should not toss out the ARC amps so quickly. My VT-100 Mk III has never needed rebiasing, has a solid top plate so hot tubes aren't exposed, and has not yet needed to be retubed after 4 yrs of light/moderate use. If you buy replacement tubes f...
$600 cd player with balanced output
As I recall, the Adcom CD-750 player has balanced outs. It is a great sounding CD player that can be found for about $700. Haven't seen one as low as $600, but you could try.
How long did it take to get your dream system?
I put together the best system I've ever had, including dedicated circuits in my listening room, about 6 years ago, which was when I was about 30 years into this hobby. The speakers (Genesis 500), amp (ARC VT100 MkIII), turntable (Linn), and CD pl...
Advice wanted on mid range setup
If you do not think the PH-3 will provide enough gain for your cartridge, then consider the Linn Linto, available for about $1100 used. 60 dB of gain, DEAD quiet, no tubes though. Still, I used it for a while in my system before returning to the P...
Advice wanted on mid range setup
Rlips--you can most certainly use the ARC PH-3, because you add its gain to that already provided by your preamp. You will be fine with the PH-3. Used they are about $900. I use that phono pre with a BAT VK-30SE, but previously used it with an ARC...
what are you listening to lately?
I've got to chime in again, after listening to the new EmmyLou Harris CD today. It's really good, with that shimmery Lanois-like texture that her last CDs had. Different producer this time, not Lanois, but a friend of his. Also, I picked up the ne...
