Couple of questions on the Merlin VSM speakers...
Budrew,6 feet apart should not be a problem at all. In fact, ideal is only 7ft. apart. 7ft. speakers-to-chair is a little tight, but it should work okay. 9ft. would be much better. Most good speakers will require as much room. Thus I don't know ho...
Acarian - Alon IV vs. Alon V mkII
I agree w/most of what's been said. IMHO the IV is a little bottom-heavy, and the V is much better balanced, and with slimmer dimensions, easier to place in most rooms. For a used speaker, they are definitely one of the better values available. Th...
Merlin Owner's...
Baddabob,We're not really persistent. We're just happy. I know; you don't see that around here all that often, but with most Merlin owners it's true. For me, buying Merlins was the smartest audio purchase I've made in my 20+ years of this hobby. M...
Best monoblock tube amp with Vandersteen 5A
Joule Electra monoblocks at CES made the best sound I've ever heard from andys. Not sure which model, but it might have been the Rite of Passage. Heard some nice vinyl via VPI Scoutmaster, Joule preamp, Elrod cables. One of better rooms at CES, IM...

Turntable, Vinyl help................please
At this point, clean records are the next thing to focus on. As Lugnut pointed out, a vauum-based machine would be great. If the cost bothers you, you can start doing them by hand w/disc doctor brushes. I highly recommend the Audio Intelligent Vin...

Alternative Rack to Salamander
Txlef,Have you considered a DIY rack? I recently sold my Billy Bags rack, and have found that sonically and visually I am happier with my maple & brass rack. As one who is not exactly "Mr. Woodworker", I can attest that it's not so tough to do...

Hot Tuna plays in Philly every Thanksgiving Eve at the Keswick Theatre. What a great way to start a holiday weekend! Cheers,Spencer

Whats on your turntable tonight?
Sonny Rollins - Saxophone ColossusOrmandy/Philly Orch - "Virtuosi" An ole 6-eye LP that gives a few soloists a chance to showoff. Fun record. Milhaud's Concerto for Percusion & Small Orch" is really cool. Glenn Gould, Bernstein / Columbia Sym ...
Only three manufacturers?
Playboy should stick with what it knows best; big pairs of bass traps ;-)Cheers,Spencer
ZYX Airy2-X-SB on Graham 2.2
Kurt,If you talk to Mehran, I would ask specifically about the differences in silver vs. copper as well as 2 vs 3. Contrary to what is considered "general perceived wisdom" around here, Mehran instructed me that the silver versions would be warmer...
Where has the respect gone?
Ignoring is fine if it's an isolated incident. However, the guy I fine to very rude on a very regular basis hits every thread I'm interested in(hint: analog), and leaves his footprints, fingerprints and buttprints on all of them. The sad part is t...
Barenaked Ladies
Maroon is my fav. Their live album is good for beginners to get a taste of many great songs, but the studio versions are mostly better. Cheers,Spencer
