Better CDP or network player?
Bryston & Vandy is a great combo from two of the credible, most solid supportive companies in the game for the long haul. Smart, safe choices. To address your questions in order, first, yes USB can be troublesome but in the last few years much ...
Better CDP or network player?
@shadowcat2016 , A couple of things:Schiit Yggydrasil certainly DOES play hi-rez. So do most of their lower priced models. Correct, it doesn't play DSD. Because they don't believe DSD sounds better. I can tell you that ripping SACDs to a server is...
Better CDP or network player?
In the same boat a couple of years ago, although I didn't have more than a handful of SACDs. I am still very happy with the decision I made to go to a server. computeraudiophile had much helpful info from those who seem most informed on the topic....
When did AudiogoN become a Showcase for The Music Room?
@aolmrd1241 Same thing happened to me about a month ago. Even asked me to fill out the form on their site after talking w/me about it. Never contacted me. I won't be calling again. Cheers,Spencer
Backert Labs Rhumba preamp
@atmasphere Ralph, when I said "voice" I certainly wasn't implying that you are doing anything to taint the signal, but rather that when listening and developing designs your judgements are coming from a musician's perspective. For example, trying...
Backert Labs Rhumba preamp
Since I know Andy really well, and sorta know Ralph as a former customer, I won't go on in any detail here, but wanted to point out that it's pretty cool that both the Backert & Atma-Sphere gear is voiced by performing (in Andy's case -- profe...
if I buy an ultrasonic cleaner for my records will I be able to hear the difference?
@rollintubes Amen, bro. What he said. Except for being too cheap to being a Cyclone to do the drying, I'm doing the same. I bought a 3D-printed attachment with velvet brush that slides onto a shopvac. With my lazy susan-based manual drying station...
TNT Hot Rod vs SL-1200G
@analogluvr makes a good point about the PLC vs. SDS. The PLC is much older, not as reliable but might get you ~$200 if you find a buyer for it. Not sure of current SDS new pricing, but used ones come up frequently for about $600-800. BTW, MSRP of...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart
@bpoletti the story about my friend was with a single-ended Prime, lol. I am happy you haven't had any trouble and suggest that if you or others ever need to disassemble just be sure to measure every angle & take a bunch of pics before doing s...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart
@bpoletti Yes, you'd think "a small box swap-out" is a simple thing, but the problem is that to change it out you need to remove the entire tonearm. The pieces that make up the base two pieces of the "dog leg", the VTA tower, etc. all separate. Af...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart
@jetson Thought I read someone suggesting to you a VPI TNT V HR on one of the other sites. I just read that ad and want to caution you about it. First, it's not a HR. HR denotes that instead of a separate armboard drilled/screwed into the plinth, ...
Does anything better Jelco arm ~$1000
Thanks, @andrei_nz!One of the kind posters here offered a good deal on a used Audiomods V, no longer needed since he upgraded to something at a much higher price. After all these posts, I'm thinking that it's not a SAAB and more like a Subaru WRX ...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart
@rauliruegas I went back to old gmails to try to remember what year it was that you visited me, & heard my Atma-Sphere MA1 mkII amps and MP-3(Ralph’s most affordable model) preamp/phonopreamp. The preamp was fitted with my personal choices of ...
if I buy an ultrasonic cleaner for my records will I be able to hear the difference?
@rrm , IMHO @pbnaudio gives you a great recommendation. I used a VPI 16.5 for years, used it with most of the available fluids and brushes available and it was pretty good. I was a beta tester for AudioIntelligent, but my fav was the Walker Audio ...
Does anything better Jelco arm ~$1000
Interesting comments, guys!@williewonka I agree that from the details I found on the Technoarm that the Audiomods is probably a better modded rendition of the Rega. With the Audiomods being a mod of the RB-300 and the Michell a variant of the OEM1...
