Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Well gee, if only three out of 350 get set up that will reveal the difference !!!!!I get better odds in Las Vegas.
Arm for SOTA?
Hi,I had a Saphire with an MMT for a few years before I traded for a Star with a Souther. The new combination was a huge improvement. Now after several years experience I am still very pleased. I never have had to adjust the arm, though one must c...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Re:Thegage"I would agree (and the second link below seems to come to the same conclusion) that mechanical linear trackers (whether passive or active) do put excessive side force on the stylus, in a way that would lead to poor performance and quick...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Thank you, Darkmoebius"Has anyone ever had a cartridge wear out more quickly or be damaged by this lateral force of a linear arm?"I have used my Souther for many years. Two years ago I sold my old Audio Technica AT150ML and purchased a new Audio t...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Atmosphere"Short arm tubes such as seen in the Souther have two issues. The first is that the arm bearings cannot be in the plane of the LP so tracking pressure will change as warps and bass frequencies are negotiated. The second is that warps wil...
TACT & Lyngdorf user satisfaction?
I decided that my previous response was too pessimistic in tone. My experience has been that I, and one of my audio friends have been very pleased with the results, while two others were not. The two who were not satisfied did not wish to spend th...
TACT & Lyngdorf user satisfaction?
Chadeffect has just make the argument for the Tact version of room correction. There is no automatic way (yet) to achieve room perfect (pun intended) results.I am on my third Tact unit and the learning curve is steep. Obviously I think it is worth ...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
Thanks Phil,My Souther has been a stable, unfussy (after a very fussy set up), reliable tool, perched atop my SOTA Star for a decade. I does require cleaning on occasion (a five minute task) and must be absolutely level. My arm/turntable combinati...
Are linear tracking arms better than pivoted arms?
In the interest of full disclosure, I own a Souther, which is a liner tracker. I further state that I have owned it for years and am very happy with it and have no plans to replace it. However, I cannot agree that liner trackers are of necessity b...
tact reliability
The first piece of Tact equipment I purchased (used on Audiogon) developed a bad channel. I called Tact, and they sent me a new memory board via priority mail, which snapped in easily and cured the problem. They considered it under warranty, and d...
Does a tube phono stage get through...
All components add distortion. I am with Atmasphere: Some distortion interferes with the hearing process more than others. Some distortion even improves the process. Adding echo to the sound of radio voices, for example. Compression is often desir...
Does a tube phono stage get through...
Tubes add compression, harmonic distortion, and a high frequency roll off to the mix. Most of us just love it, i know I do. The technical and subjective reasons for this apparent contradiction takes a bit of study and open mindedness.cheers
Are you ever satisfied?
Depends on when the question is asked. I am inclined to be happy to listen until something goes wrong. After that, sometimes it takes quite a while to get the "magic" back.
Were My Speakers Damaged ?
An overheated voice coil can cause the thin varnish on the wire coil to bubble and fill the gap between the coil and the magnet and bind. Woofers can be checked by carefully pushing the cone in and out, taking care to push evenly on both sides of ...
Is active speaker the future?
We of the curmudgeon and proud of it persuasion probably will not give up our separates in our stereos, but HT is the area that really matters for most folks. I too cain't wait to get rid of the wires and the mess and the bother in my own HT. Soon...
