What to clean audio equipment with? A few years ago I bought a CJ preamp with a silver faceplate that was stained.I called CJ and the service tech said that they used Cinch brand liquid cleaner which is available at the grocery store. Since then I have cleaned all my metal gear regu...
Has anyone heard the Yamaha NS 2000 I have not heard the Yamaha, but I have heard (and own) some very good dynamic powered monitors. My main system, however, is electrostatic.Mass, single ended drive, and crossovers, still limit what dynamics can achieve, however, In recent years mu...
What planer speaker to start with? Budget 2k I suggest avoiding all hybrid planers. Getting rid of the box is only half the advantage available to a planer design. The other half is the full range driver.Crossovers, especially in the midrange, ruin the continuity of the sound. Full range ele...
When has a piece of equipment paid for itself?? The wise will always be happy to buy at discount the assets of those who have no care for value and buy at full price.
When has a piece of equipment paid for itself?? For most of us price is important. It determines how much we can participate in our hobby. I always look at the items that are easy to buy and sell and those things that hold their value and see if they can fit into my plans. Somethings, like Mac ...
Anyone familier with Fuselier speakers? Hi Tom,I believe they were made in Atlanta. Larry Avant had a pair. His had three tweeters arranged in an odd 3d array (see to appreciate). They imaged well behind the speakers so he sat almost between them, perhaps two or three feet back from the...
Why not use mains as centers I use two bookshelf speakers on their sides, on top of the sub, tweeters in, and making a V angle out of about 30 degrees. Sandbox on top. No interference issues apparent in movies. I play music elsewhere.
Why not use mains as centers Sorry, I meant to say that I wired them in series!
Why not use mains as centers Sure, If you have the room. I have a big projector screen it sounds more convincing than a single. To err on the side of caution, I wired mine in parallel.
Vishay resistor break in? Dgarretson is right. The first time I replaced stock resistors with Vishays (S10) and turned preamp on, the thing sounded so bad I almost took them out. About a week later they started to sweeten and open up the texture. The noise floor drops and ...

Electrostat - M-L; Quad or Soundlab - reliable I have two sources of information re: Soundlab reliability.1. Two of my friends have Soudlabs - M1 and M2. One had to ship his back for repair( the M1). They are now for sale.2. Check the ads on Audiogon. A high proportion say; For sale, just back...
Electrostat - M-L; Quad or Soundlab - reliable Acoustat. The most reliable E-stat ever. My 2+2's are old enough to vote. Been shipped from Florida to Canada and back by truck freight. With new caps and wire (under $100) they will outperform the Quads (just like they always did, read the review...
Acoustat repair or rebuild in Texas??? Unplug the speakers and allow them to discharge for 24 hours before you touch anything that might be part of the circuit. High voltage can kill you!!!!You can take the metal plate off the top of the speaker (not the base where the power supply is ...
Acoustat repair or rebuild in Texas??? Just a thought, but it is easy. A close inspection might reveal the problem. Take a flashlight and shine it through from the back. See if both speakers have similar vertical strips glued on the plastic grid. Mine had lost one in shipping and this ... |
