Turntable stand, steel, aluminum, shelves of ?
Ken, The reactions to maple butcherblock are not all favorable. If you do a search of the archives on Agon or AudioAsylum, you will find a number of folks (including me) have found thick maple---3" in my case---to be too slow, thick and dead sound...
Turntable stand, steel, aluminum, shelves of ?
I use a Sound Anchors turntable stand for my Galibier Gavia table. The stand is made of welded steel filled with sand and PVC damping tubes. It is firmly spiked into the flooring with steel spikes. The table does not have any suspension and it res...
EMOTIVE SIRA
I'm using a Virtual Dynamics David on my Emotive Erato, and find the combination to be very synergistic. The David reinforces the qualities of the Erato, especially the microdynamics. I also have a Virtual Dynamics Power One that I use on my phono...
High mass turntable owners -- What Stand?
Richard (Palasr), I haven't decided yet what material I like the most for a plinth in my setup. So far I have tried the following, each in a 18 x 24 footprint: 1. 3" granite surface plate----very nice bass and overall detail, but it develops a "sh...
High mass turntable owners -- What Stand?
I have my Galibier on a custom Sound Anchors stand, and I am very pleased. The sound quality is excellent and there is no rocking or wobbling. I would caution you about using thick maple as a mounting platform. I have found the maple to have too m...
Anybody heard Galibier or JC Verdier turntables?
I can corroborate Thom's statements regarding lack of bearing wear. I took apart the bearing in my Galibier after about a year of frequent use, and was somewhat surprised to see no indication of wear at all, other than a little dimple in the Delri...
Anybody heard Galibier or JC Verdier turntables?
I own a Galibier Gavia (but with the older Teflon/aluminum platter), and I have been very pleased with its sound quality and reliability. I have heard the Platine Verdier a number of times but not in my own system or in a comparison with the Galib...
Moerch DP-6 VTA Adjustment
There's a set screw on the barrel of the arm. You loosen the screw, move the arm up or down, and retighten.
What phono stage candidates should I consider?
You may want to try the lower-gain Artemis PH-1 (52 db) instead of the PL-1 (72 db). The PL-1 is simply the PH-1 with a builtin Sowter 10:1 transformer that provides an additional 20 db gain. The PH-1 would allow you to choose your own MC transfor...
Cartridge selection & output “mV” MM vs. MC Help
As far as the gain is concerned, 20 db equals a 10x voltage increase. So your 4.5 mv catridge into a 40 db phono stage is equivalent to a 0.45 mv cartridge into a 60 db stage. The two situations should have the same output voltage. Dave
What's under your amp?
A Sound Anchor amp stand under my Cary 40M monoblocks transformed them----more dynamic, more detailed, and more coherent. This was compared to a solid wood stand that I had tweaked to get the best sound. Dave
Schroeder model 2 or Morch DP6?
Rwd, I don't want to leave you with the wrong impression. I didn't say there aren't major differences between the VPI and Moerch---there are. But they are both good sounding tonearms. BTW I notice that you are using a Benz M0.9. I am using a Benz ...
Schroeder model 2 or Morch DP6?
Rwd, I can't speak for the NY area, but there's a dealer in the Wash DC suburbs who can let you see and hear the Moerch DP-6. Deja Vu Audio has had a 12" DP-6 set up on a Platine Verdier for several years. The store also has a lot of experience in...
Basis Vector 3 vs. Schröder, Triplanar, Graham
Chris, Can you expand a little more on your comparison of the Moerch arms to the Schroeder Ref. I am using a 12" DP-6 (with a Benz L2) and have been curious how the Schroeder would improve things. Thanks.Dave
New Cartridge for Morch DP-6, 12", Red Dot
I have a DP6 with 12" Red wand as well, but I don't know what the effective mass of it is. The mfr literature seems to be referring only to the 9" wand. However, my dealer says that the 12" Red is very flexible and has worked fine with every cartr...
