Sony XA7ES vrs Cambridge 840C and others...
I've owned the XA7ES and it's a great player at its price range. However, I've heard replacement parts for the XA7ES are kind of extinct. I would suggest that you forgo this player as once it breaks down the player is as good as dead.
Used MF Trivista 21 or Benchmark Dac1?
Is a stock unit of the MF Trivista 21 acceptable on its own? How long can the tubes last before they need to be replaced? How many tubes are there inside the Trivista 21 and are these special tubes? Lastly, will a stock unit of the Trivista 21 add...
SHMCD : Second thought on buying SACD player
I have a Pat Metheny "Offramp" SHM-CD ordered from Japan and found no difference in sound quality compared to the ECM CD.
Tannoy, PMC or Monitor Audio,
I have listened to OB1 and IB1 but have not tried the new "i" series. Having talked to the PMC dealer, the "i" series does offer a bit of improvement to the old series in terms of refinement but the changes will not be day and night. I don't think...
Tannoy, PMC or Monitor Audio,
I have no experience with the other two speakers but have a fair bit of experience with PMC speakers. I don't think you'll get a massive upgrade going from the GB1 to GB1i. The bass on the GB1 won't go too low due to the smallish drivers. If there...
Sonus Faber Domus GP vs ProAc Response 2.5
Sonus Fabers house sound was never my cup of tea. I prefer the Response 2.5. The only thing I don't like about the Proacs is the conversative British looks but they do sound quite spectacular. The build quality on the Sonus Faber Domus line of spe...
what do you know"
A lot of technical talk here. It's inevitable some people would spend big money on cables especially those with $200k systems as to them it would be "injustice" to spend $200 worth of cables on their mega-buck rigs that would deserve "better" cabl...
Little bit "forward" sound - what cables to avoid?
Homosapien, no offense taken. Adjectives used in audio can sometimes be confusing especially with cables when objectively we cannot quantify brightness or warmth with them. I often associate forwardness with brightness and laidback with warmth so ...
Little bit "forward" sound - what cables to avoid?
What model is your Wireworld interconnect? I've owned the Eclipse II and still have the Super Eclipse 5 and they are not bright but rather neutral and clean. Brightness can sometimes be caused by the room itself due to reflection from the front, s...
Slight "Crackling" noise in right channel of amp
If you have another source say a CD or DVD player, connect that source to another input of your Musical Fidelity integrated and see if the crackling or buzzing sound is there. I have experienced this before and the intermittent crackling sound is ...
When did Musical Fidelity start making stuff in...
11-17-08: SemiI just bought a Giant TCR Advance 2 road bike which is again made with pride in Taiwan. In fact, 90%+ of world class carbon road bike are made there, do you hear Lance Armstrong complaining his Taiwan bike? But you can bet if he was ...
2 Acoustic Zen Silver Reference II IC's too much?
I currently have one pair of Silver Reference II and two pairs of XLO Signature 2 all balanced cables. The XLO is a more dynamic cable and has more energy in the higher registers(some can associate that as brightness) than the Acoustic Zen Silver ...
Nordost flat line cabels vs norse series
I have owned the Frey balanced interconnect. I didn't recall huge changes after the burn-in period but it did possess a slight tilt in the treble that some can associate with brightness or harshness. The Frey does have great resolution and detail ...
Noisy speakers
Yes, but not exactly the sound of shaking coins in my case. Mine was a buzzing sound from one channel and I managed to track the fault to the CD player. Try some simple trouble-shooting methods to determine which component is failing. If you have ...
Pat Metheny Fans, Great Suggestions Please ??
Just an update. I've received the Offramp SHM CD(Made in Japan) and found no difference in sound quality compared to the ECM CD. Either my source is not capable of revealing the finer nuance and detail or I am not listening hard enough. Either way...
