Compact 7ES-3 Massive improvement. The 7ES-3 is a very good speaker. Sam Tellig bought both Compact 7ES and the LFD integrated when he reviewed each pieces separately in 2007 and 2008. The combinaton between the two was described as a match made in heaven.
NVA amplifier anyone? Hi Styxtrekr, Actually one of my friend was selling the unit and I took it back to my place to audition it since I am not going to commit before I listen to this amp. I never heard of this amp before and only got to know about NVA just recently wh...
NVA amplifier anyone? I just took back an NVA AP70 integrated yesterday and this thing stunned me sonically with its excellent tonality, timbre, musicality and dynamics, all this when the amp was powered up from cold. Although I only heard about this rare British amp j...
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker I never enjoyed listening to music in my car as listening fatigue is too high even at moderate volume levels. At low volumes the sound is not full enough. Yes, Shirley Manson sounds good, thanks to the warm, lush and laidback sound of the Plinius ...
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker Hi Shadorne, I suspect it is not so much on the preamp but the smooth sounding Plinius amp. The rough edges, piercing treble and grainy vocals are pretty much subdued with the Plinius/Harbeth combination. I guess Garbage must have sounded bad with...
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker Before I forget, I have to add that the SHL-5 needs to be placed at a further distance apart for better soundstaging capabilities. Due to width limitation of the room, the speakers were about 7' apart previously to get them away from the side wall...
NVA amplifier anyone? Hi Lupin,I would be trying out an AP70 soon and would appreciate your advice. Does the NVA amp sound close to Lavardin IS at a fraction of the price? Does the amp lean towards a warm and lush sound or a lean, detailed and musical sound? Thanks in ...
Audible Illusions Preamp I have tried the preamp which was an L1. Unfortunately it wasn't an improvement to my ARC LS-16. In comparison it was unrefined and little shut-in. I think what others have said about the Audible Illusions being compressed and lacking in dynamics ...
Audible Illusions Preamp Narrod, thanks for your brief but detailed information. It was much appreciated. I will be trying out one of these soon. Cheers.
Will YBA Integre DT Match Harbeth Speakers Well? Thanks for the responses. I will be trying two preamps very soon to get a feel of things that might come. They are not quite up to the Aesthetix Calpyso's standard but may suit my system and/or listening preferences better than the ARC LS-16.
Will YBA Integre DT Match Harbeth Speakers Well? Thanks for your response Pdreher. Now I can forget about the YBA. A few of my friends suggested that the ARC LS-16 might be the culprit due to its clean and soft sounding nature coupled with a low gain. Due to my limited experience with preamps I ...
B&W Cdm 1nt vs B&W 685 ??? I have not listened to the 685 but the CDM series are excellent. I've owned the CDM 1SE's for almost 12 years, just recently sold them away earlier this year, and it's a classic really. The CDM 1NT would be close to the N805's performance so I can...
What amplifier for Harbeth HL-5? Pdreher, I hope you will get the Skylan stands soon and have the M40.1's properly set up before carrying out a proper evaluation on their sonic performance and actual capabilities. I might have been too critical on the bass performance of the SHL-...
What amplifier for Harbeth HL-5? After almost 3 weeks getting accustomed to the SHL-5 with the speakers almost completely run-in, I begin to appreciate the finer qualities of the Harbeth after prolonged listening sessions. This may have been repeated many times before, but in the...
