Audio Technica AT33 PTG or AT33R Hi Hififile, have you tried the Denon DL103 prior to purchasing the AT 33PTG? Any idea whether the 33PTG will shine with a low-end phonostage?
Monitors to replace Dynaudio Confidence C1's Tsciame, I don't own the Dukes and heard it at a dealer. I had forgotten the amp he was using to drive the speakers at the time but it was a Scandinavian solid-state integrated. I highlighted about the Dukes being very revealing, detailed and anal...
Monitors to replace Dynaudio Confidence C1's A word of caution. The Marten Dukes are not warm. They are very revealing, detailed and analytical with their ceramic drivers and probably sound a lot like the C1. The build quality is very good though.
ATC SCM7 vs. Proac Studio 110 Thanks Shadorne. I have sent them an email. The reason I asked is I heard the new ATC SCM7 is assembled in China while the old model in UK.
ATC SCM7 vs. Proac Studio 110 Sorry to hijack this thread. Anybody know what is the difference between the older SCM7 and the current latest SCM7 model? The cosmetics are quite different between the two. Are there any substantial difference in sound quality, or both sound equa...
Rega P3-24 & P5 owners.......... I can now attest to the benefits of the TT PSU after hooking up one to my P5. I listen to a lot of acoustic guitars and drums and can clearly perceive an improvement in sound quality with the TT PSU on board. More control and focus in all areas pa...
B&W 805S vs. Usher BE718 I have not tried the Usher but have owned the original N805. Contrary to Kenk168's findings, I find the N805 to be a warm speaker with smooth top-end. In fact the sound was so smooth that I switched to some Proac speakers after a while. I am often...
Amplifier Power Ratings & Speaker Sensitivity Bob, I have not measured the in-room frequency response of the room since I am quite happy with the sound I'm currently getting from the speakers. Furthermore there isn't much allowance to move the speakers around and I have no plans to add EQ cor...
Amplifier Power Ratings & Speaker Sensitivity Yes, I forgot to mention about quality power between a good amp and a cheap receiver. The same goes with power differences between solid-state and tube amps. Both my Plinius and Rega amps rated at 100W and 80W respectively sound much louder than m...
Amplifier Power Ratings & Speaker Sensitivity Thanks for the link Tvad. I have gone through the document and it seems to make more sense now. I particularly agree with the statement that loudspeaker sensitivity ratings are often overstated by a few dBs. That is the reason it is always prudent...
Amplifier Power Ratings & Speaker Sensitivity Thanks for the advice Shadorne. It was useful and much appreciated. Regarding listening to LOUD music up to 100dB SPL or higher, I have measured the SPLs from 4 meters away at the listening position using a Radio Shack SPL meter and the needle has...
Dream speakers and amp for an 11x14 room? Floorstanders will still work in your room. It's just a matter of finding one that is designed to be more room-tolerant. You would definitely need some room treatments in a room of your size. I know of a guy who had Marten Coltrane in a 9'x13' ful...
B&W CDM 1 SE or CDM 1 NT Main difference is in the tweeter as pointed out by Audimiata. The CDM 1NT's tweeter carried down from the Nautilus line is more refined and open so I would say the 1NT is overall a better speaker.
Focus Audio FS688 vs FS68se Hi Garry,May I know what other speakers have you listened to apart from the Focus Audio FS68 Signature? Does the Focus Audio sound more like a Proac, Dynaudio or Sonus Faber? Does the Focus Audio have the speed and excellent imaging of the Proac T...
Rega Saturn. Is it really a giant killer? Timoteo, that is quite a surprising evaluation you have done for the Rega Saturn. The last words I would use on the Saturn would be anything but thin and almost clinical. If you want a more dynamic and involving sound, you might want to scratch Pr... |
