Harbeth SHL5 placement
In a bigger room and a listening distance of 12-13 feet away from speakers the sound will be more expansive. As Tom_Hankins had pointed out, you shouldn't worry too much on how far you should sit from the speakers. Stick with the configuration tha...
Harbeth SHL5 placement
In my experience 7' to 8' from front baffle of speakers to the listening position. Further away and the SHL5s will struggle when listening at higher SPLs. I concur with Chashas1 in that the Harbeths do benefit from side wall reinforcement.
Harbeth SHL5 placement
I would suggest that you place the SHL5s on the short wall. 14' width is more than sufficient to fit the SHL5s. The owner's manual is just one to two sheets of general notes on speaker placement and the usual stuff. There is nothing to worry about...

Dynaudio Confidence 5 vs Harbeth
Agreed that everything is IMO. In this hobby everything is subjective as the listener's musical preference will take precedence over anything else. The Dynaudio Confidence may be in another league for one and the Harbeth to another. I have listene...
Dynaudio Confidence 5 vs Harbeth
Hi Che13, No problem. I have owned the Proac Tablette 50 Signatures and similarly they lasted less than 2 months in my system due to their leanness and lack of body. No doubt the Proacs possess excellent pin-point imaging but their lean sound and ...
Dynaudio Confidence 5 vs Harbeth
Since you prefer the Confidence 5 over the current Confidence range of speakers, I wager you like a sound that has more meat on the bones with less top-end detail. Hence I am not surprised you have found the Proac Tablette Ref 8 Sigs to sound hars...

Greeni, do you know if there are any differences between the Ayon CD-1 and CD-1S sonically? How do you rank these Ayon players in terms of sonic performance, CD-1, CD-1S, CD-7 and CD-5? Thanks.
Harbeth HL5 vs M30
You don't need to crack your head too much or flip a coin in choosing the right speaker. It depends on the music that you listen to. To quote earlier responses:-05-02-10: Dmastrihi,if you listen to alot of classical or rock music, then i would say ...
Upgrade Options for BPT Pure Power Center
Hi Androux,I did make it to the 500 hour mark, much more than that in actual fact as the unit is still in my system. Well, I can't say that I noticed a noticeable improvement after the break-in period. If there is it would be subtle at best. It is...
Does Newly Soldered Cables Require Run-In?
Thanks for all responses. Okay after 2 days of run-in the sound has opened up. Time to listen to some classical tunes now. Cheers.
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker
Thanks for the kind words Drubin and Jim.Yes, I do understand Alan Shaw's perspective in the use of inexpensive amps in driving his speakers. The problem is where should we draw the line in categorizing amps which are considered as exotic and amps...
Review: Harbeth Super HL-5 Speaker
It has been almost a year since I owned the SHL5. A few amps have gone in and out of the room and I have finally settled for an amp that I think can last me for a couple of years before I start looking again. Due to the Harbeth designer's philosop...
The Harbeth phenomenon
Everybody has their own favourite speakers. Those who like (or own) certain speakers will inevitably sing praises on them while those who dislike a few others will criticize them, or keep quiet. Nothing unusual. I have close friends who tell me st...
Harbeth vs PMC
I have owned PMC LB1 Signature and listened to the EB1i in my friend's system. I currently own the SHL5. The Harbeth SHL5 will sound more full, organic and satisfying at low volume levels. PMCs sound leaner and more precise and usually needs to be...
