Early SOTA vs New Something: Conundrum
Hi Spencer thanks for your reply With the new cartridge installed I am currently (other than the switch failure) very happy with the SOTA. My plan is to run it as-is for the moment. It now bests my digital front end; I'll call that a win I did s...
Early SOTA vs New Something: Conundrum
Thanks for all your replies I don’t know if the motor is ac or dc. I suspect dc but could be wrong.  Thanks for the tip on the arm board. I might go that route and the bearing service, but found when the new cartridge (AT art9xi) went in it most...
Early SOTA vs New Something: Conundrum
An update: The new SOTA belt came in. I know I had replaced it once before years ago, but this one is quite different. Much narrower in width and quite a bit shorter. Whatever; it works very well. The old belt took a number of seconds to reach s...
Early SOTA vs New Something: Conundrum
I found this in a similar thread:   gyneguy225 OP 83 posts 09-12-2022 at 09:23pm  I spoke to Donna today, and she still recommends the Origin live tonearm. >I found out that there are a number of upgrades for my 30 year old SOTA for about...
Early SOTA vs New Something: Conundrum
Thanks for all the replies I have taken a first step by ordering an AT ART9XI cartridge The tonearm is solid even if it's not in optimal position. This will show me what I can expect going forward with the SOTA as-is. Or, to see what is SOrTA ...
Early SOTA vs New Something: Conundrum
SOTA sent me a price list of updates and repair service I’m afraid I got a bit of sticker shock. That’s what got me started thinking of the Technics (for one) as it would be similar price or less all in. I just don’t know side by side if the SOTA ...
Early SOTA vs New Something: Conundrum
Thanks for the reply, yes a catch 22 indeed. Yes it is an AQ B200. It may have been a rebadged something or other. It’s 20+ years old and then some. Yes the springs have sagged. So the unit needs shipped back for that and then it just goes up fr...
What speakers are you using with Luxman class A?
I’m driving GPA Altec 604 with a 590axII with good results.    The speakers need help on the bottom end so subs are driven off the Luxman pre outs.    Needless to say there is more than enough power from the Luxman.
Moved from medium attic like room to larger room, everything is too bright
I would play with the subs a bit more. If you can get more bottom end it may allow for less volume from the mains, making a fuller sound. See if better placement or higher gain/ lower or higher crossover point helps. Put the mains 7’ apart about 1...
2, Which speakers to exhibit in audio show?
For what it’s worth, through my iPhone the second one has a more natural horn on April in Paris. What’s all the hiss noise?
Technics SU-G700M2 Grand Class should I get one for my son ?
I agree with russ69. Most likely a Fugoo Bluetooth speaker will be the ticket here. 100$ and be done with it.
AGD Tempo in the house
I have just received the Tempo as well. It is early yet to form an opinion as it is just a few hours in the system.  I am also waiting to receive an improved rca IC which will enable better potential.
Power cable choice, does it matter for subs?
Thank you Steve for the great video very interesting.Right now I have four subwoofers plugged into a Hubble outlet. I am using a cheap three-way Splitter, and should probably ditch that soon. I may look into running a dedicated line as the four su...
Power cable choice, does it matter for subs?
Thanks for the response, I think the 14ga has helped over the 18ga and that should be enough,CheersRW
Who else is using old cables/interconnects, and is happy?
I just replaced some 25 year old DH Labs speaker cable with Mogami 3103 from Takefiveaudio. I was unsure what to expect but they did make a substantial improvement. Very happy with the swap.
