Classical Music for Aficionados
On the same disc as Pletnev’s recording of Symphonic Etudes, is a magnificent performance of the Schumann Fantasy. Best I ever heard.

Yes, I agree about the late Pogorelich recordings.I’m just now listening to his recording of the “Etudes” and find it it quite poetic. And, at one time, he had tremendous technique.

My favorite recorded versions of the Etudes are by Alexis Weissenberg and Ivo Pogorelich.Of course Pletnev is great in whatever he does.

I’m  listening to a work of incomparable genius: Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, and just had to write about it.Some of the most brilliant variation writing existent.

Speaking of Kondrashin, I believe he is one of the great conductors of the 20th century and somewhat underrated.  He was superb not only in Russian music.  His Mahler performances, especially the 9th Symphony, are truly admirable.

Jim,Yes, I listened to that performance a while ago and was similarly impressed. At his age, like his compatriot, Martha Argerich, he seems to have lost nothing in technique.  What a musical genius!  He conducts even the most complicated scores fro...
Warm up time for record playing
Rodman,I’m sure you’re right.. The manual for the Conrad-Johnson PV11 merely states that most of the tubes in the preamp are designated for the phono section. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not energized when the unit is turned on.Thanks...
Warm up time for record playing
I just realized that most of the tubes in my preamp are designated for the phono input and they take time to warm up.  I don’t think they’re activated during CD or streaming playback.Duh!
