Reference Recordings Reference Recordings do require more volume. Only until I got a more powerful system did they have any quality at all. But STILL, they are recorded too distantly in orchestral settings for my taste.
Your Forever Pieces? What and Why? Just replaced (but still own) Dalquist DQ-20’s bought around 1989. Wonderful sounding speakers used and enjoyed for almost 30 years. Also, Conrad-Johnson PV11 preamp from ‘90s. Still using. Just had Teflon caps installed.
Reference Recordings Once you get used to the RRs the sound is not so bad, but nothing like the raves of some critics
Reference Recordings Thanks for the recommendation. May try it.
Reference Recordings With my transport/DAC the sound is no better.
Classical Music for Aficionados Gdnrbob,If you search Amazon deeply, you’ll find CD copies of the Argerich/Rostropovich.It was re-released in 2016
Classical Music for Aficionados I really can’t comment a lot on the debate over SQ because IDAGIO is not as revealing as my CD setup. I can say the piano appears to be slightly left of center, and at least on IDAGIO the sound is full and warm if not extending past the speakers ...
Classical Music for Aficionados Newbee, I’ve just located both Zimerman performances on IDAGIO. I’ll give them a listen and report back.
Classical Music for Aficionados “Swings and roundabouts?”Not an American term, but I get what you mean.Of course, I would expect the hi res files to sound better.Maybe, some day...
One speaker observation from the New York Hifi show. Even though my system images an orchestra better than live, it still doesn’t have that holographic effect some strive for (and some achieve.) That’s a “magic trick” brought about microphone placement. No one sits where those microphones are place...
One speaker observation from the New York Hifi show. Again, I agree with harrylavo. At live concerts, of which I attend many, I generally sit close up where one may hear the most directionality (certainly in the middle to rear of the auditorium, you hear very little.) But even in that position I don...
Classical Music for Aficionados I’m sorry I cannot comment on the fine points of his Chopin concerto recordings because I don’t own them. But I have heard him live in concert, playing and conducting the E minor Concerto. A very original, some would say eccentric performance wit...
What are fuses used for? I think I’m going to be a flatearther on this one.It seems like too much trouble.
One speaker observation from the New York Hifi show. Harrylavo,Really excellent post. You’re entirely right. But it’s fun trying to achieve that “holographic” imaging, even though it’s tortuous.
What are fuses used for? Thanks again! |
