Has the cost of HiFi gotten a bit too much?
Top end gear is expensive but there is plenty of good budget gear out there. Maybe more choices than ever.
Magnepan LRS Support Group?!
I have other speakers and have always wanted to try Magnepans. I'll save you a little work. Start 4 or 5 feet out from the wall, toe in to taste, and use a good beefy amp.
Speaker relative efficiency/sensitivity when using a high pass filter
If you want your main loudspeakers to have punch and power, I would not cut your main amp back too much, preferably buy more power!
Magnepan LRS Support Group?!
Unlike amplifiers speakers cannot hide their faults from measurements. You can't measure a dipole loudspeaker in the near field and get worthwhile results. You also can't listen to a Magnepan placed one foot from the front wall and surrounded b...
Is mixing RCA and XLR cables bad?
I have used XLR to RCA adapters on my BigMac amp without issues. There is no secret sauce using XLR cables. They are designed for long runs and the output is often 3 db higher by design. In some cases that can make the amp noisy with high efficien...

Does Formula 1 racing and high end audio go together for anyone else?
Can't wait for F1 to go electric. Already doing it. It's called formula E.  The Official Home of Formula E | FIA Formula E
Corrosion
Green on copper is never good but just call it patina and all will be well.
Does Formula 1 racing and high end audio go together for anyone else?
Following F1 since the mid-sixties, when drivers were fat and tires were skinny!
Decent mid fi with Onkyo tax-nr809
I’m sure the OP is enjoying his combination but I’m not sure it rises to the mid-fj level. Pretty much entry level. Most of us started with a receiver and a pair of loudspeakers.
"What Is Classic Rock?"
I saw that. It was well presented. Not everyone agrees but their definition was as good or better than any I’ve heard. (Mostly saying Classic Rock is a radio station construct).
Using a mono speaker instead of stereo?
Well there are many that support the mono lifestyle. My Dad's first rig that was handed down to me was mono. I played the Beatles and Jimi to much satisfaction on that rig. Forward to today, I'm back to mono. I can only hear out of one ear. I use ...
Let me explain something to you jive turkeys.
Who are you calling a jive turkey, you’re harshing my mellow.
DAC variable output
Depends. Some digital gear has a digital volume control that starts dropping data to control volume. Most of the time you are better off running through the preamp. The best systems always have a quality preamp, just saying.
300B int+headphone amp or kt88/el34
It's hard to make generalizations but 300B tubes are usually associated with low power amps. Plus they are VERY expensive and not used in higher power designs (there are always exceptions). The EL-34 is kinda the sweet spot for many and the KT88 i...
