How do you judge audio components and speakers?
We are seeking the illusion of a live performance. Not me. I listen to recordings and to the art of recording. That may or may not have anything to do with a "live" performance. I treat live performance music and reproduced music as two differe...
Krell HTS 2
I tend to disregard equipment that is more than 10 years old. I have concerns about repairability and parts supply.
Just got my pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros
Warning: When your headphone rig sounds better than your loudspeakers, it's time for a big upgrade...fair warning.
The Music at AXPONA 2022
Aren't Diana Krall's records aimed at audio show demos? There is that and others that the salesman are just darn sick of hearing. In most cases the manufacturer will play stuff that gets your attention and makes their product sound it's best.
How to keep albums playing at the same volume
The only way to do that is to compress the signal. It's not the peak loudness but the average level if I understand the issue correctly. The problem is that really ruins the music. There are affordable devices that do this but the results are not ...
Empirical Evidence?...the gap between subjective and objective
He told me that he did, in fact, hear clear differences in power amplifiers, but that he did not value the differences as significant in the context of an audio system. At the time he was the best source of information about audio gear but he d...

Music Hall 9.3 vs 11.3 Turntable
Can I jump in? I can't answer your question directly, but you can't really have too good of a turntable and cartridge. Blow the budget and get the best you can afford, you'll have it a long time so it's worth spending a little extra on it. Hope th...
Cary SLP-05 Trim Pots
Without a service manual, you are working blind. You can call Cary and ask but don't expect an answer you can use.

I just know that if they were mine I would yield to the temptation to upgrade them if I had the money of course. If it was my only pair of loudspeakers or they were in my main system I might, but I have better loudspeakers if I feel the urge.
Accuphase integrateds…are pre outs active full time to use for sub?
@russ69 would that cut the gain down since the pre signal is split in two? You'll have more than enough volts to drive anything you want.
Just got some AudioEngine A5+ speaker and they blow my mind
My mind was and is still being blown Wait until you hear a top-notch loudspeaker. Better put a helmet on.
KEF Meta Reference 1's? anyboy heard them?
When you get into that kind of money, there are a number of floorstanders that will blow away a stand mount speaker. My choice in that price range is a Triangle Alpha or Delta.
Cary SLP-05 Trim Pots
To be honest, I don't really know but I run an SLP-98. Most tube preamps do not need a bias adjustment, unlike a lot of amps with power tubes. Let me look for a manual. Yup, the manual is online at Cary.

Now, throw in a nice pro-ject the classic sb, or a Music Hall mmf-5.3 or 7.3, plus a border patrol dac and an audiolab cdt6000 transport, and you got one heck of a set up for the money. Good tips. I just run an OPPO CD player and an FM tuner. W...
