Lack of Female Representation
"...I attended an audio society meeting in my area for the first time a couple of years ago -- it was intimidating..."My wife asked me to take her car in for service. She said the dealer takes advantage of me because I'm a woman. I assured her tha...
Interesting thought
I'm old but I remember my first time being exposed to a very hi-end system. I bought two $139 loudspeakers but my dealer loved to demo top systems so you could get a taste of what is possible. There are so few dealers with super hi-end sound today...
thoughts on the bose 501 speakers
"...I have Series 1 and 2 901's that I bought used for my 5.1 setup. I think they were and still are their finest product..."Series 1s were the best of the bunch. They may have been their best product but they were not the best loudspeaker in 19...
Lack of Female Representation
It's just not this hobby, it's all hobbies, except those hobbies that women are more attracted to, like maybe doll collecting, etc. I race cars, motorcycles, karts, and sailboats. There are a few women in each sport but we'll never see a 50/50 mix...
Keeping backup equipment?
I run 6 systems, so yes I have spares.
Where are the young audiophiles?
"...So it’s really only accessable to those upon whom God bestowed both outrageous wealth AND ears more sensitive than an oscilloscope. It’s a bit of a niche demographic, see?..."The best part of this hobby is putting together affordable systems t...
Where are the young audiophiles?
"...Relax. The sky is not falling..."There has never been more buying choices than we now have.

Why do we want to distortions?
"...That was one way out wacky theory kijanki..."No it's not. Distortion, at a certain volume level, is an clue to loudness, if you can get that clue at less than extreme levels your brain thinks you are at the limit and really rocking. In the hom...
Why do we want to distortions?
"...Distortions make sound more dynamic and often we want them for this reason..."This is the real reason. Good summary.
What audio aspect are you knowledgeable in?
Mostly just stuff I have tried.
Hi Fi or Not?
Flagship efforts like you listed have been very good in the past, although some pieces may be better than others and the smaller boutique manufacturers might offer a little more bang for your buck.
Why do we want to distortions?
I have never measured amps, I just buy what sounds good. Don't really care about anything else.
Tekton versus Klipsch
OK let's head out into left field.  I own a pair of factory custom rosewood Klipsch Heresys. They are very neutral sounding but not very engaging and surprisingly they need a little power to get jumping. So even though they have a high efficiency ...
Magico compared to Tannoy
You question is pretty generalized, so it's had to state anything definitive. But if I had to make general statements the Tannoy is a classic sounding product and Magicos are state of the cone speaker art. Go to Upscale Audio and watch a couple of...
