Kef Reference 1 Meta Impedance Puzzle It’s a 2 Ohm speaker with no good reason. It's not a 2 ohm loudspeaker. KEF lists it at 4 ohms. Many loudspeakers dip down to 2 ohms, not that unusual. The phase angle is pretty manageable in the low impedance region. It happens.
Should headphones be plugged in when tube headphone amp is on? Not sure what the correct answer is but there are many tube amps that have the headphone circuit running all the time and users do not have the headphones plugged in. The headphone section is not using the power amp section, or has added resistors...
Crossover - hard to find for biamping I've had good luck with the DBX crossovers, just be sure you get the one with the audio connector not the 1/4 inch jack.
Why are these called 5 way binding posts? I count four! I'd call it 3 way, bare wire, (in a hole or wrapped around) are the same damn thing really. Not the same if the hole is missing....
Looking for advice, recommendations I think your number 2 list is the solution you seek. But you might try some KT-88s in the amp you have (I put Gold Lyons in mine).
notable consolidation possibility, should I or not? ...I replaced my SimAudio 340i amp with the Musical Fidelity M6Si integrated .... I'm looking for the thumbs up button.
Could we get a group of all IRS Beta owners? That's going to be a small group. Lots of those have been scrapped for parts.
The Marantz Model 15 Amp How fresh is the rebuild? Old solid-state gear will lose its smoothness when the caps dry out. Why bother with old gear, there is very good new stuff out there that will sound better. Rogue and Musical Fidelity come to mind.
notable consolidation possibility, should I or not? I'm not a fan of all-in-one machines. Keep your digital gear separate, the digital world is still changing at a fast pace. Get a nice integrated amp but use outboard digital gear.
Do JBL D123 ( 16 OHM's) Speakers need a Crossover ? Yes, you can hook it up direct but it's a guitar speaker, not a full range speaker.
I was happy with my system for 30 years; now I need a new amp...and more? I might be a broken record but for your budget I would run a Musical Fidelity M5si integrated amp. Plenty of power for whatever loudspeakers you might buy. I might also try a newer but modestly priced CD player. With the right cabling the Klipsch ...
Bang for the buck is that because ASR doesn't properly measure equipment Good evaluation is test and listen to the product. They sometimes don't bother to listen. And when they do listen to a loudspeaker, they only listen to one...not a good way to listen to ste...
Amp change That is an expensive amp. I would upgrade to Maggie 3.7s and Parasound JC1s. My brother had the JC1s with 3.6s and it was very good. The 1.7 is a step down, a pretty big step down. And if it was my money I'd get a JC5 stereo amp and be happy. The ...
Another "Best" amplifier Question. Musical Fidelity M5si. Right at $2K and has a lot of power.
Cartridge to turntable price ratio Personally, I think the point of diminishing returns effects the turntable before it does the cartridge. I agree, just don't put a $5000 cart on a $300 table. |
