What is a Transcription Turntable The term has been co-opted over the years to mean simply "high fidelity", but originally it was a turntable that could play 16-inch transcription discs common from about the mid-1930s to the late-1940s for radio station use. These 16-inch transcri...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Too little credit was given to the Chesky LP reissues, imo. I've always found many of them to be excellent. The "Lieutenant Kije/Song of the Nightingale" reissue you mention is a good example of a really nice remastering job that captures a lot of...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Tonnesen, Christopher Hogwood's performance with Monica Huggett and the Academy of Ancient Music is a very nice performance and very well recorded. Huggett is superb as the violin soloist. As originally issued on L'Oiseau Lyre in a 3 LP set, the L...
VPI Scout ... move to Scoutmaster or even further Hmmm..., I'll differ in this recommendation. The upgrade from the Scout to the Scoutmaster (with 300rpm motor) is a very material and very worthwhile upgrade, imo. I haven't directly compared a Scoutmaster and a Nottingham Spacedeck in the same sy...
Convergent audio + Walker Audio Omega Micro Robert, I don't have CAT gear, so I can't directly answer your question. I do use the Omega Mikro Ebony cables (active, cryo'd) as a phono cable to my Aesthetix Io Signature, and I use the Omega Mikro active cryo'd speaker cables with my Atma-Sphe...
What do tube and music have in comon? Scotttht, how would you communicate a good humored chuckle in a text message? This is how I normally see "hehehe" used on the 'net, and I've seen it for years. I assume this was Linkoping's intention, but I don't know that. .
What do tube and music have in comon? All tube system, listening 90% to classical music of all genre (but mostly instrumental), then to blues, folk, celtic and jazz. Almost entirely acoustic music listening, but a small smattering of rock tossed into the mix. Pop does sounds OK here, ...
Proper method when rack is not on cement floor Yes, that is the idea. The jacks are very heavy steal, with plates at top and bottom, and a threaded rod at one end. They telescope to several interim lengths, you choose the length that is just short of your overall height from floor-to-joist. Th...
Proper method when rack is not on cement floor Sorry about the bad link. Yes, the Tiger Brand posts are the ones I used and was trying to show you..
Proper method when rack is not on cement floor I've had good success using my rack spiked to a wood suspended floor. Since you're over a crawl space, you might consider one more step: install some extending jack posts under the floor joists in the crawl space to add more rigidity to the floor....
Want better sounding speakers?......Look at this I've been away for a while and have not followed the progression of these posts. I thought responses from Rpatrick were appropriate and I appreciated his feedback. Sharing different experiences is what this site is all about. What I see from Treyf...
Want better sounding speakers?......Look at this I've heard from a number of Quicksilver users that we did not allow enough break-in time and that Quicksilver needs 36-72 hours to begin coming into its own. Break-in is something we've all experienced, and I agree it is important and real for man...
Any Audiophile recording of The Planets? Jsujo, Boult made quite a few recordings of Planets. In the stereo era, he recorded this for EMI in 1966 and again in 1978. The one referenced by Jeffreybehr is the 1978 recording, Boult's last recording of this work..
Any Audiophile recording of The Planets? RWD: I agree with you, the Previn is the performance of this music I keep coming back to, and I far prefer it to Mehta, Boult or Susskind. I've not heard the Dutoit. Jeffreybehr: the Previn is multi-miked, as were all the "two Christophers" record...
Any Audiophile recording of The Planets? One of the best performances in excellent sound: Previn/LSO on EMI. The Mehta/LAPO on Decca/London is often cited as excellent sonically; the Previn is a better performance, imo.. |
