CSO Resound - Mahler 1 SACD
And please pick-up copies of Mahler 1 by Kubelik, Horenstein, and Walter. What they lack in sonics are counterbalanced 10-fold by interpretation. Enjoy.
Best Solid State for Avalon Isis
Clavil,I'd like to experience the Hovland Stratos and DCS Scarlatti with the Isis. I'd imagine it would be quite special and a different flavor than what I have. If you perceived some excessive slowness, then I wonder whether there is a room or sp...

My system has been posted. Thanks again for everyone's help.Rob
Wilson Maxx3 vs Avalon Isis
There is a thread on amps for the Isis. For tubes, I think you got CAT and VTL to consider. BAT may not have enough power in your room, but it may be worth a try. I am not sure if you could hook-up 4 BAT monoblocks together, but that will certainly...
Wilson Maxx3 vs Avalon Isis
HiFi+ has a review of the Isis by Roy Gregory that is fairly accurate. The Isis are detailed, coherent, holographic, and provide heft at the lower end to give music some body and presence. They need special attention to component matching, and som...
Avalon Eidolon Diamond or Aerial 20T v2.
I think Semi has a valid point. There is no perfect speaker. Perhaps there is price to be paid for the imaging and detail achieved by ceramic drivers. In addition, they tend to dip below 4 ohms, and need careful component matching. One has to prio...
Avalon Eidolon Diamond or Aerial 20T v2.
The Indra with the BAT vk600se in a 14 foot wide room may have very good bass.Indeed, Avalon's are very finicky about set-up, power, and components. In terms of bass, there are very few speakers that do that cohesively so that music has the weight ...
Best Solid State for Avalon Isis
Thanks to all for the advice.I settled on the Karans based upon several people who have actually heard them with the Isis. Roy Gregory from HiFi+ used Karans for his Isis review, and I thought that review was very accurate. I find most reviews to ...
Best Solid State for Avalon Isis
Here is a clue regarding how much power is pulled from the wall. The Karan 1200 has a true dual monoblock design (4 power cords total, 4 on/off switches) with 4 fuses total. I ordered 4 replacement HiFi fuses, and here is the response I got:______...
Best Solid State for Avalon Isis
I think this is a good discussion. The Karan slides the bias to achieve class A, but is touted to be unique in the way this is accomplished. I am not an engineer, so I cannot speak to whether this makes sense. Milan Karan designed the amplifier to...
From Marten Coltrane to Avalon Isis, Hansen King??
Although I would not figure Nordost to necessarily have good synergy with ceramic and diamond drivers, I do not think that would necessarily limit your bass.I would focus on the amplification. I personally feel that people vastly underpower their ...
From Marten Coltrane to Avalon Isis, Hansen King??
I am not sure about the power ratings for Vitus. However, I would not think twice about putting 600-900+ watts at 4 ohms onto the Marten. For the Isis in a large room, with few exceptions, I would be looking at 400+ watts into 4 ohms as a minimum.O...
Playback Designs Firmware Update
Thanks. I understand the concept of the firmware, but still unclear as to why it would result in such a big improvement in sound. The resources of a digital source are fixed based upon the hardware and processing capabilities. Software can either ...
From Marten Coltrane to Avalon Isis, Hansen King??
Maxx1973, What amplifier are you using with the Marten? That seems to be an inefficient speaker (300w recommended, 89db, 2.7ohm min). Could that be contributing to the lack of bass?
Playback Designs Firmware Update
Would someone explain exactly what is firmware, and why does it change the sound? Thanks.
