Phoebe Snow has died.
I feel bad. I still listen to one of her discs that has all of her hits, but I never knew until today that her career was derailed by the need to take care of her severely brain injured daughter. I always liked her and thought that her voice was u...
Sophomore Slump? The best 2nd albums of all time
Tweekgeek,You really blew my mind. Before I even finished reading your thread, I was thinking of Roxy Music's second, "For Your Pleasure". The first was a never to be forgotten masterpiece that I treasure and still listen to, but the follow up was...

Agree with both of you...different from one another, but both excellent.
Why Doesn't Contemporary Jazz Get Any Respect?
To me, the modern smooth jazz souds as if it is being performed by musicians on Paxil. There seems to be no real tension, creativity or nuance. The accent seems to be on flow and a relaxed groove. It puts me to sleep.

I got home late last evening, and only gave a cursory listen to the Voyage disc. I am sure that I will come to like it very much, but on first casual listen, I wasn't "blown away" in the same way as I was with Anniversary or The Lost Sessions. Aga...

I am at work, and I just received my copy of Voyage from Amazon. I want to leave work so I can go home and listen to it, but I'll just have to wait until tonight...
NSMT Speakers?
If they said it on their website, it must be true, right?
What does one purchase after owning horns?
Lrsky,I am one of those who prefers horns because of the more realistic dynamics, but I rarely listen to music at loud volumes. The higher dynamic threshold of horn speakers makes them sound more life-like at modest volumes as well.

Ferrari,I always enjoy reading your posts, and especially your reviews of vintage equipment. Do you also own the "Anniversary" Disc? I have quite a few other Getz discs that I love, but that was my first one, and it is a great one.

Just as an added thought, I was listening to "The Lost Sessions" the other evening, and I was realizing once again the motivation that drives music lovers to become audiophiles. Stan's playing on this recording is so full of delicate nuance and dy...
What does one purchase after owning horns?
This is an interesting thread with a lot of good information. For me, whatever the shortcomings of horn systems may be, and they surely have shortcomings as all speaker systems do, the (relatively) greater dynamic freedom gives the music a sense o...

Thanks to Frogman, and all other posters. I just ordered the CD from Amazon a couple of minutes ago, and I can't wait for it to come. His music has given me great pleasure for years, and I am in awe of his lyricism and his virtuosity. Truly an all...

I wonder if this has been reissued under any other names on CD as I don't have a turntable. I will check it out. I love the live "Anniversary" disc, and also "Lost Sessions".
Is Upgrading Degrading?
I can't speak for anyone but myself, but for me, it has been a long process. I don't really consider the evolution of my system "upgrading" toward some absolute standard. For me, it has been more about learning what is important to me personally i...
CELESTION SL6 Si - woofer replacement/repair
If you have owned the SL series of Celestion speakers, you will know that these can't be reconed or have the surrounds replaced. The driver was proprietary to Celestion. It was unique in not having a dust cap (which was unusual at that time), and ...
