New Kimber 8TC vs Old 4TC
Teflon takes 200+ hours to stabilize as a rule. Place the speakers close together, face to face, and reverse the polarity on one of them. Play music(like from an FM tuner), set on mono, with heavy bass content. That will lower the output volume an...
where to get shorting plugs?
(http://www.cardas.com/content.php?area=oem&content_id=7&pagestring=RFI/EMI+Protection+Caps) read the following and pay attention to what is said about shorting outputs:(http://www.siteswithstyle.com/VoltSecond/Shorting_plug_rca/shorting_p...
Balanced vs Single ended?
If both pieces were not designed with fully balanced circuitry: It's a waste of time, and you quite possibly will be subjecting your signal to extra, signal-degrading comversions/componentry(ie: differential amplifiers, phase splitters. If your in...
Are contact treatments worth the money?
I'm a skeptic by nature and as a result of being screwed over the years, by hyped products outside of the audio arena. However- When an audio product is offered with a money back, satisfaction guarantee(ala SST), highly touted by so many reviewers...
Entry Level Cables
I've seen a lot of 8TC, in 7 to 10ft pairs, sell for under $200. IE: (http://cgi.ebay.com/KIMBER-CABLE-8TC-Speaker-Cables-Terminated-7-6-ft-pair_W0QQitemZ300296392435QQihZ020QQcategoryZ14966QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) Many on AudiogoN a...

Sounds like me. I should have stocked up on TungSol 6SN7GT/VT-231 Round Plates($50.00 ea, when I fell in love with them) while I had the chance. I was going to use three 6201's as phase splitter/drivers, but gave up on that amp after getting burne...
Audience Telfon Auricaps
RE: The AuriCaps- What Mr B said, +1. Ditto his comments, RE: Paper in oil as coupling caps(unless you enjoy the colorations/lack of PRaT they offer). Enough of them, combined as a filter bank in a power supply, can add dynamics/effortlessness in ...

Mr N- Since you mentioned 6201's: I bought four for an amp I was building a few years back, but never used them. I sent two to an AudiogoNer to try, and he bought them. I've still got the other pair, if anyone wants to try them out(free-no strings...

Then you disagree, not with me, but the specifications of the tube itself: (http://www.boiaudioworks.com/5751) (http://www.tubedepot.com/5751.html) paragraph 5 of this page:(http://www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/files/Phaseinverter.pdf) (http...

Clipper- You'll have to turn your volume control up a bit to get the same SPLs with the 5751, as they have about 30% less gain than 12AX7s. Their "tone" is also a bit more laid back(richer/smoother/warmer-more 2nd order harmonics) than most 12AX7s...
Improving your BAT 150SE
This will give you an idea of the V-Cap pricing structure: (http://www.partsconnexion.com/catalog/CapacitorsFilm.html) I've got soft-recovery FREDs in my mono tube amps, SS woofer amp, and TacT 2.2X. Don't hesitate to upgrade your power supply's r...
If cables can break-in, can they then wear-out?
Iron interconnects, treated with unobtainium, become so transparent they can also be used as optical digital cables. The never wear out, or oxidize, once treated. Their only weakness is a propensity to attract spurious trepidary bipeds(from thread...

Obviously you aren't a Marine! I'm certain that Leatherneck(whom I was addressing) got my joke. If you're too deaf or blind to hear, see or appreciate the differences that SST MOST CERTAINLY makes, it's a shame. NO DOUBT though- You've NEVER tried...
Advice on stacking equipment
The 'Inverse Square Law' states that the strength of a magnetic field diminishes in proportion to the square of the distance. In other words: Your components' separation needn't be large when they're placed side by side. The transformers, micropro...
