Best Mullard 5AR4/GZ34?
Mr L- Recognition of the variously branded Mullard tubes, comes mainly with familiarity of their internal construction and date codes. Here's some info on the coding: ( http://www.audiotubes.com/mullcode.htm )
fire spark in 5AR4 rectifier tube for PrimaLuna Pr
Just a little FYI; The best sounding, most reliable and longest lasting rectifiers out there, are the Blackburn Plant, Mullard tubes(the earlier the production-the better). Unfortunately, do to all of the aforementioned facts; they are also the mo...

I find it interesting that both Shure(a company that MAY know just a LITTLE BIT about cartridges, and their function on a record surface) and Nautilus(which pressed some of the highest quality discs in the 70's and 80's), both included blank 'Anti...

Mr S- Please, tell me: How can a cartridge, with it's anti-skate out of adjustment, ruin a track with no grooves? Mr D- I've found the anti-skate track, on the Shure disc, to be very beneficial. It's saved me a lot of time, when setting up cartrid...

Another good reason for the purchase of the Shure Audio Obstacle Course test record: the anti-skate test track.
What component is responsible for dynamics ?
Everything in the system, from the quality of your AC, to the size/layout of your acoustic space, can and will affect the dynamics of what you hear.

I reiterate; the range for your Black, is 1.4 to 1.7G, so- you can try .2 more VTF, without exceeding the recommendations. Further- the Shibata stylus is very sensitive to VTA and Rake Angle adjustments. Does your table's arm allow for those? I'd ...

Different Results between Record Cleaning Machines
I owned an original VPI 16(purchased in 1981), and now own the 16.5(using VPI's fluids). Many of the records in my possession, were cleaned with the first, then treated with LAST(once). I've always pre-play cleaned with a Discwasher D3 or 4 system...

Actually- the odds are pretty good, if the groove modulation is high enough. BTW- Do you have your VTF set toward the high or low end, of your cart's range?

Jitter and 75ohm cable length
My experiment was via two Kimber Orchids(.5m and 1.5m) There was no contest, as the longer cable was much more open and liquid.
Turntable speed accuracy
Your 60Hz line freq, may no longer be sacred! This COULD POSSIBLY become an issue soon. A copy/paste, from a previous thread: Something that got me thinking more about speed accuracy lately, as both of my tables are equipped with AC synchronous mo...
Explain speaker cable resistance, capacitacance?
It's impossible to predict how a cable or interconnect will sound, without having it installed in a system. All conductors will necessarily interact with widely diverse component input & output impedances, as well as the highly reactive(in mos...
