PS Audio GCPH to loud . Where to go next?
Nope- that type of noise is not typical of the unit. At what volume on your preamp is the noise audible(your normal listening levels, or above)? I'm betting it's caused by something being picked up between your cartridge and the GCPH's inputs. Hav...
Does anyone still miss the old Audiogon format?
It was MUCH easier to find items in, and surf, the classifieds previously. And YEAH- to ask questions about it too. Don't care from the new format, at all!
PS Audio GCPH to loud . Where to go next?
Did you buy it used? I'm asking because, if you have a warranty; it needs to go back to PS. I'm using a GCPH, with a 17D3, in my system now. I've modded the GCPH, but- at the worst; it only has a VERY slight 60Hz hum, at the highest gain setting, ...
Anybody with some thoughts on Hafler amps
Much depends on the cartridges and mixer that you're using with those tables. Most DJ oriented pieces are not especially designed for fidelity. If the DH-110 sounds good with the SACD; it should sound at least as good, with a decent phono pre and ...
I'd probably lose this bet....
PAY UP!
Have a heliflux magnetic aspect sensor type 3
Sounds like part of a metal detector.
Thirty dollar upgrade worth thousands
My wife told me I never listen to what she says, or something like that!

BAT VK-60..New to tubes...Help???
Raytheon, RCA and National Union VT-231 tubes(bottom gettered, from the 40's), will retain whatever sound staging, imaging, dynamics(etc) your recordings possess, but with just a touch of added warmth. Be certain to buy tubes that are graded for l...
Newbie Question: Why is turntable volume so low?
As Mr B mentioned; A good step-up X-former would be another way to go, without lowering the performance of which the table/cartridge combo is capable. What would be the point of buying a table listing for $2500.00, that comes with a cartridge, opt...
Which resistors to use for KT88 output tubes
Let us know how your amp project turns out.
Which resistors to use for KT88 output tubes
Mills makes some nice, non-inductive wirewounds and what I would probably choose for the screen grid: (http://www.hndme.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=54) I wouldn't use carbon comps anywhere in an amp, that I didn't want to exhi...
Newbie Question: Why is turntable volume so low?
That turntable generally is equipped with the DL-A100 cartridge, modeled after their DL-103(.3mV output). As Minkwelder mentioned; Low Output MC cartridges require a phono preamp with sufficient gain(around 60dB). When you obtain one(phono pre): d...
Which resistors to use for KT88 output tubes
Again, the Vishays and Caddocks I was referring to, are both Metal Films. Read the paper again, in that light. Yes, this has also been my experience.
Which resistors to use for KT88 output tubes
Metal films like Vishay and Caddock, are excellent, but good wirewounds have actually proven to be quieter. ( http://www.aikenamps.com/ResistorNoise.htm ) It can't hurt to have stable/quiet resistors, in every section of your circuit.
