Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
Given the number of circuit designers, over the decades, that have chosen to utilize both nine pins(ie: 6DJ8 iterations) and octals(ie: 6SN7s), and the excellent results, that have been attained with both choices, has led me to believe that blanke...
NYT: interesting take on the "loudness wars" in studio engineering
Like everything else, it’s all relative, though to me: compression sucks! Interesting article, links and vids, here: http://www.turnmeup.org/   (BE PROACTIVE)

An enlightening site, for those interested in finding recordings with less/no compression: http://dr.loudness-war.info/
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
"Do your amps use one or two 6SN7 tubes ? I am confused about that" As I stated: I’ve been using 1940s, Tung-Sol(round plate/JAN CTL/VT-231) and Sylvania (6SN7W/JAN CHS/tall bottle/metal base) tubes, in my monoblocks for a couple decades(one each ...
Honesty is How This Tube Dealer Built His eBay Business
My last octet of NOS GE 6550As came from TC Tubes.  When one finally went South(after a couple years), they managed to find one, in their inventory of too-weak-to-sell-NOS, that matched my seven well-worn, and gave it to me.   Didn't even charge m...
Small or big tubes/valves for pre amp ?
@grey9hound - I’ve been using 1940s, Tung-Sol(round plate/JAN CTL/VT-231) and Sylvania (6SN7W/JAN CHS/tall bottle/metal base) tubes, in my monoblocks for a couple decades(one each per amp). I’ve kept a stash of bottom-gettered, 1940s, Ken-Rads and...
What responsibility does a seller have to tell a customer an item has been serviced?
If I have any reservations regarding the condition or past service of an item of interest: it's incumbent on ME to ASK, before I BUY.    Honest answers are the seller's responsibility.
Honesty is How This Tube Dealer Built His eBay Business
Here are two eBay sellers, that I’ve dealt with repeatedly, over the years, and found honest, reliable and very accurate in their testing methods: angst46 and audiotubes_de
The Presslift
I’m guessing, all those keystrokes were about lifting an arm, when a record ends. My first Safety Raiser(AT6006) lasted 30+ years, before it began lifting too quickly. That’s a lot of years, in which I enjoyed end-of-record-peace-of-mind, via it’s...
Selling Tubes.
These guys offer testing, for a price(of course): http://tctubes.com/tube-testing-service.aspx They’re honest and dependable(from personal experience).
Bi-amping with integrated
To actively bi-amp an integrated, requires being able to separate the preamp from the power amp, and installing an active crossover between. The Cronus doesn’t have a Pre-Out/Main-In facility. It does have a variable output(could be used for a woo...
Speaker hum
With speakers that efficient and an amp with a ton of gain, you’re likely hear the slightest hint of residual noise, coming from anywhere in your system. Why did you mate speakers that sensitive, with an Odyssey Stratos amp?
unison 845 set driving maggie 1.7?
Nice integrated, but not for 1.7 Maggies. They just won’t open up and present the realism they’re known for, without the right amount of juice.
Need help solving a system problem
That the IEC switch makes no difference, is really puzzling. Given that the woofers are(I'm assuming) pumping with it engaged, their excursions should increase markedly with it off.   Are we talking about an audible, "rumble", or subsonic excursio...
Need help solving a system problem
Just curious: At what level do you have the Bass Control set, on your Logans and- does your phono stage's IEC button, make any difference when engaged?
