To ring or not to ring? Just took delivery of a VPI ring that I found on Audiogon. Seems to improve the sound on all records, even flat ones. Highly recommended. Aaah - I feel my Classic 3 is now complete!
Hugh Masekela – Hope / Should I get the CD or SACD I've also heard that the 45rpm lp available from Acoustic Sounds is fantastic.
Your experience with a Spin Clean RCM? Couldn't afford a VPI at the time, so bought a Spin Clean. Does a decent job, but no idea how it compares to other RCMs. Better for batch vs single records, since you have to fill the reservoir regardless of how many records you're planning on cle...
Accessing music files The simple answer is "yes". I too have a PC and use an Apple Time Capsule as a HD/router to hold my cd library (using iTunes) and transmit music wirelessly downstairs to a modified Airport Express which is connected to my pre. I use an iPod Touch ...
cd player that forgives bad cd recordings I have to agree with Photon 46. IMHO you're asking for the impossible. Consider a used Arcam FMJ23. Mine held its own against a modified Oppo 95.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.... My preference is for a stainless (vs copper) ring; and I think the heaviest stainless TTWeights ring weighs 2.1 lbs, while one reviewer said the VPI ring weighs 7 lbs. I'll have to take that into consideration. But, I agree with Buconero117 that i...
Turntable Swamp. . .what to buy? Liked my SOTA Sapphire as well as the owners of the company. Easy to access and talk to. But bought a VPI Classic 1 after it was introduced and loved it. Traded that into VPI for a Classic 3 and will never look back. As great as the SOTA folks are...
Less than top line reel-to-reel worth it? Just a word of caution - not sure what the shelf life of a reel of tape is; but older tapes will dry out over time and gum up the player's heads. A lot of used tapes (and even NOS) sold over the internet have seen better days!
Opinion Needed Suggest you consider the Exemplar modded Oppo 105. Demo'd one a couple months ago and it sounded very, very nice! Passed on it since I'm now into streaming my cd library and into analog.
how do YOU stream? Apple Time Capsule (HD/router) > Zardoz (hot-rodded Airport Express) > Pre. Use an iPod Touch for remote. Fantastic sound!
VPI cartridge install f/phase inverting pre Aaahhhh, now I understand. Wasn't aware that there were cdps that inverted phase. thanks
VPI cartridge install f/phase inverting pre Thanks! If the owner's only source is a TT, does it matter if the change is made at the cartridge (as VPI instructs) or at the speakers? I wouldn't think it would matter.
To ring or not to ring? I was too slow; ring sold yesterday. My dealer sells the ring for $615. Think I'll let the moths out of the wallet and get one; who cares if the wife and I have to eat cat food for the next couple months. If it disappoints, I'm coming after everyo...
To ring or not to ring? I'm getting lazy in my old age. Is the VPI ring EASY to remove and and install again when it's time to flip or change an lp?
To ring or not to ring? Looked on Ebay and think I'd consider only the TT Weights DP 16-2.0 for $391. But is the VPI ring for $700 worth the extra bucks? Google search shows the VPI ring is 7.5lb (versus 2 for the TT). |
