P3 Record Player left on for 4days.... did I trash my cartridge?
Your cartridge is probably still ok! Just a wee bit worn after in use for 96 hours! I trust you gave the stylus a good cleaning with some alcohol and a brush.
Amp designs - Krell, Threshold and ML from the 1990s
Without schematics there can be no meaningfull discussion of these amps. Just subjective conjecture!
What Powers Your Power?
Hamsters running inside a wheel connected to a generator!
Should I sell my DAC
If you must have a new toy to play with sell the OPPO and buy a BlueNode 2i streamer. You apparently have abandoned the use and ownership of physical media! Read the editorial in the March Stereophile!
Should I sell my DAC
Selling the OPPO is a sideways move at best! There is nothing, repeat nothing, wrong with the DAC in the OPPO! The proliferation of DACs is driven by business profit motive capitalizing on the insecurity and gullibility of neurotic hobbyists.
Kate Bush Mastered for Vinyl 1, 2, 3 and 4.
I had, and lost when I moved, the 1978 UK pressing of The Kick Inside. What a beautiful reference-quality sound from this particular LP! This I had bought new and sealed about 1980.
Any Difference Between Gold and Silver RCA/XLR Connector Plugs?
As the French Chef says: "No diffawrance!"
Through unfortunate circumstances........
Don't worry about the capacitor condition of the Spec1/2. In my considerable experience buying/selling vintage gear I have never had a problem with capacitor deterioration/failure in solid state gear. You can get a variac and plug the Spec1/2 into...
Through unfortunate circumstances........
The Pioneer CD player is fine as-is. It will work well with the Spec1/2. Later you may add a DAC to the digital output of the CD player.
Through unfortunate circumstances........
The Pioneer Spec1 and 2 are both excellent high-end units! And still very desirable today by collectors of vintage audio gear, like myself. Keep and use them as the centerpieces of your stereo system.
Which is the most important part of a stereo system?
After the SOURCE it is the loudspeaker.
Which is the most important part of a stereo system?
The SOURCE is the most important part of any audio system! The turntable/arm/cartridge for LP playback. For Digital it is the player (CDs) and DAC/transport. Music lost at the beginning can never be recovered later!
Clipping
For every 3db increase in SPL a doubling of amp power is required. So: 2 watts, 4 watts, 8 watts, 16 watts, 32 watts, 64 watts ... so even just a few clicks upward on the volume control soon reaches the amp's limit when trying to go louder on mode...
Moving coil VS moving magnet/iron
Naturally a mat that is "dead" and well-damped is a wise choice! I am presently using the Hiraoka Diskmat SE-22 (thick rubber with embedded metal weights) on one TT. And a 3mm magnesium 12" disc (very dead!) on another TT.
Moving coil VS moving magnet/iron
SoundSmith is in the business of selling MI cartridges. So concocting a "theory" about cartridge physics is an attempt to gain an advertising edge to entice the unwary! At least Joe Grado never went for this sort of thing - and he was building and...
