Seeking floorstander for low watt SET
How about a nicely refurbished pair of Altec Valencia's? Plenty of impact and drive! Will match well with low-power SET's! This is from my own personal experience. I am presently using Altec Santana 1's with excellent results! Amp is a Sanei 560A ...
Upgrade path from Wilson WattPuppy 7s? - seeking advice
Out of left field: how about a nicely refurbished pair of Altec Valencia's? Plenty of impact and drive! Even when used with a low-power SET amp!

A used Koetsu Black would be a good budget choice. Or a used Supex 500 (same designer as the Koetsu). Either one used with a good SUT will provide plenty of sonic realism from your favorite LP's!

I recommend a moving coil step up transformer (SUT) for use with any low-output (less than 1 millivolt) mc cartridge. This will give you the needed gain and sound much better than a typical high-gain phono stage. And a much lower noise floor so yo...
Review: Audio by Van Alstine Model 2 Amplifier
I have a Model 3 awaiting repair - problem in one channel. Could it be this same Opamp? An easy repair then! Sure would help to have a schematic for troubleshooting!
Why don't amplifier Companies use high end fuses?
Here is an interesting aside: John Bedini (one of the premier circuit designers) came to believe in the directionality of resistors. He claimed to have invented a method for measuring this property and using it to select resistors for his amplifie...
Why don't amplifier Companies use high end fuses?
The "sound" of a fuse (piece of wire) is a tricky subject indeed! But first we must define (and agree) what exactly is "sound". I propose that "sound" is our brains' interpretation of pressure waves in our oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere impinging upon...
$100,000 line stage
Anybody remember a short-lived magazine called Ultra Hi Fi? I bought a few issues and then it disappeared! This was about 1990. Today there would be plenty of pricey components to fill those pages!
$100,000 line stage
If I could have afforded it then, I would have bought the $6K pair of ML6's! Now in the present day I had the cash but had forgotten about them (and the ML7). Oy Veh!
$100,000 line stage
Back in the late Seventies The Audio Critic tested the Mark Levinson ML6 mono preamps. And thought they were the best sounding units of that time. But the cost - $6000 for the pair! The most expensive preamps at that moment! Peter Aczel (TAC) reco...

$100,000 line stage
I recently sold my Audio Note Zero linestage for a mere $300. Remote included! Maybe I should have asked for more?!!!

W.S.Fields said "There's a sucker born every minute". Don't blame me!
Opinion:PSaudio/Robertson audio pre/amp
I have a Robertson 4010 awaiting hookup. Years ago I read Peter Moncrieff's review of it in IAR. He praised it as one of the best sounding amps. I remembered this and when a 4010 appeared on EBay for a reasonable price I bought It! Looks in very g...
