Best Cartridge Shure V15mk5 MR! A world-class mm cartridge that works best with a low-mass arm! I own one (and will not part with it!). My tonearm of choice is the Grace 707.
Recievers, Pre amps and amps. +1 oregonpapa! Nice looking and a reasonable price!
Tonearm Advice Needed Regarding speakers: the venerable Quad ESL 57 is STILL a world-beater! I myself have two pairs awaiting setup (bought my first pair in 1981 - kept them in use for 19 years before stupidly selling them!).
Tonearm Advice Needed I too have owned and enjoyed using the 3009 with mc cartridges on my Ariston RD11S (the Sondek's Scottish cousin). It has sufficient mass to work well with a variety of mc cartridges! Keep it and spend the money on a world-class mc: the Miyajima S...
Balanced cables +1 audiozen! Thank you for your cogent explanation and debunking of the "superiority" myth of XLR (Cannon) connectors!
Nad M3 non repairable Most any component can be repaired - providing it hasn't been run over by a truck! The issue is finding a competent technician and paying the cost (could be quite high!).
It's Simple Inductance is measured in Henries - named after 19 Century scientist Joseph Henry (who first discovered this property).
It's Simple Watson, come here! I have just discovered a way to reduce PHLOGISTON in wires for a breakthrough in sound quality! Amazing, Sherlock! The Nobel Committee will be interested!
It's Simple Only the R (resistance) matters at audio frequencies (20 hz - 20 kHz). Thinner wire has more R - thicker wire has less R. The L (inductance) and C (capacitance) of typical speaker wire are of too low a value to affect a music signal. Physics 101!...
Sota Sapphire what cables? Don't fall for what the "golden ears" crowd says! I have the Monster M1000 IC and it sounds fine! I feel no urge to replace it with something more costly!
Need some Amp help - a little new to properly powering speakers Don't waste your money! Going from 150 watts to 300 will only give an increase of a mere 3db more SPL. And that is at the rated limit of the LSIM707's! If you want more clarity at lower volume you need two things: a better speaker and a better amp...
Unforggetable song titals "In Held Twas In I" Procul Harum - Shine On Brightly. A GREAT song! Not to be missed! 1968!
Audio Salons in Greenwich, CT Whatever happened to Audiocom after moving to Greenwich Ave.? I heard that they later moved to Norwalk, CT. Are they still in business? I worked in the Old Greenwich store back in 1978! Thanks!
B&W DM70's - top end lacking I'd ditch them and get a pair of Infinity 2000A's. 12inch woofer, midrange cone, RTR electrostatic tweeters in a large box. Built from 1968 - 72 by Arnie Nudell! I have a pair I bought two years ago from the estate of a college professor in CA. ...
Newbie with some turntable, cable, pre-amp, and speaker questions. Before wasting anymore money I suggest buying some high-quality used vintage components. As an example, this is what I purchased used over the last two years: David Hafler 101 preamp and DH200 amp ($300). DCM Time Windows 1A ($219). These make a K... |
