Ohm load for SET Amps
Halving the impedance doubles the current (amps) required. Tube amps are current "challenged" compared to SS amps. Therefore the higher the speaker impedance the easier it is for a tube amp to provide enough current.
Dynavector DV20X2H or DV20X2L
I own 5 SUT's (Bellari, Denon, Quicksilver and 2 custom-made with Altec mic transformers). And a Marcof PPA-1 SS battery-powered head amp. Plus a whole bunch of mc and mm cartridges!
Dynavector DV20X2H or DV20X2L
Better yet (lower cost) a Hana lomc with elliptical stylus + Bellari SUT for about $850+ total!
Dynavector DV20X2H or DV20X2L
Get a low-output Dynavector mc (I've had several) and a $300 (approx) Bellari SUT and you'll be good to go! Will sound better than any mm cartridge (waiting for the rocks to come flying at me!).
Does any one have any experience with the fisher doc now days
I had two vintage Scott integrated tube amps (233 and LK72) restored by an expert tech in CT. Excellent work! I can recommend him for any tube electronics servicing! PM me for contact info.
Buying from Europe
I bought a pair of Rogers LS3/5A's from a seller in Lithuania via EBAY. $650 + shipping. Arrived safely - well-packed! No custom fees. Very good deal!
Krell KSA100 vs Threshold 400A vs McCormack DNA 0.5
@legarem: That Son of Ampzilla for $460 is an excellent choice! I own two of them! And I bought one brand new in 1977 - and stupidly sold it! Still a contender for "best sound per dollar"!
Is Speaker design evolution stagnant
I have a pair of Bertagni SM100's. These are planar two-ways made out of Styrofoam. Two magnet/voice coils embedded in the foam. One in the middle for bass/midrange. One above it for treble with a single cap. Sounds good only at lower SPL's. And n...
Best Buy to Pull CDs, Target Threatens to Pay Labels for CDs Only When Customers Buy Them
I use EBAY to search for CD's at bargain prices. I just won at auction (Amoeba) three nice CD's: REM Document ($.68!), Miles Davis Around The World ($1.81) and The Replacements Tim ($4). Shipping was $5.75 from LA to Florida. Done from the conveni...
Sound from my turntable is veiled (like behind a curtain)
+1 ggagnon! I clean the styli on my cartridges after every side. I have used isoprophanol on the Discwasher brush for decades without any damage! The use of a cleaner from AT or LAST is a good recommendation! Before playing a side I like to apply ...

Waveform used this method successfully with three stereo amps and a 3-way Bryston x-over.
Pros and cons of leaving your DAC on 24/7
SS equipment can be left on 24/7.The exception being Class A amps that run very hot. Those should be turned on an hour or two before use and then off after listening finishes. Preamps and Class AB amps that become moderately warm are ok to be on f...
Sound from my turntable is veiled (like behind a curtain)
The Toshiba should offer very good sound. No need to be ashamed for using it! Leave it on 24/7 (as you should for any SS equipment). Japanese equipment from the late 70's - mid 80's achieved a high level of SQ!
Sound from my turntable is veiled (like behind a curtain)
Clean the stylus using a piece of Magic Eraser. Check the alignment and tracking force. Remember that LP's can vary widely in sound quality - from absymal to sublime!

Nothing wrong with EBay! I've bought plenty of fine vintage HiFi gear there - much at low prices!
