Afro-Cuban Jazz
For reading about the greats, I would recommend "From Afro-Cuban Rhythms to Latin Jazz" by Raul Fernandez. He curated the Smthsonian exhibit on Latin Jazz.
Record shops in Minneapolis/St Paul MN
Usually, cheapo has used record shops next door to the cd places. They also have a reasonable selection of new vinyl as well. I would call ahead and check.
MM cartrige - recommend a good one
I would also check out the Music Maker III and Classic. Both received very good reviews in Stereotimes.I am familiar with the Music Maker II and it, indeed, makes music. My understanding is that the III and Classic are better.
How do you know if your TT needle is worn out?
when it is really worn, you will heard a lot of distortion. Hopefully, you will have replaced the stylus before then.
passive preamp matching
Marco,What amp(s) are you using? Your setup (at least the Placette and input impedence of the amp) sounds remarkably similar to mine. I have the Placette and simply love it also and the only thing that has tempted me otherwise is to audition the P...
Any experience Good/Bad with Marigo Audio mat/dots
I use the 3D Sig mat and various dots---white, green, and black as well as the bands. My experience with the dots has been positive. At first, seeing the mini sizes of the dots, I was very skeptical. However, after experimenting on caps, ic's, tra...
Shakti Stones Do they actuall work guys.
Ditto Mrderrick's comments, especially amps. The lesson here is to experiment and listen. They are system and component dependent.
Best whole house surge protection?
Bill Gaw in Enjoy the Music comments on a system by Environmental Potentials that seems to filter hash from the applicances within the house and protects against surges.http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/viewpoint/0606/aachapter80.htm

We are in your debt. May your health improve. You have certainly enriched my life. Many thanks.
Alternative air pumps for ET2
I've used a 2.5 hp air compressor for years with a 10 gallon air tank. since it makes a bit of noise, it is located in my garage within a make-shift sound proof crate. At the TT end, I have a lab-grade regulator that works very well.
Sony SCD-1 owners - I/C and PC recommendations?
I have the SCD-777ES, except for the balanced option, electronically the twin of the SCD-1, and after much, much experimentation, settled on Chris VanHaus' Flavor 1 for the PC and his fine silver ICs with Eichmann silver RCAs. The PC had less effe...
Has anyone heard the modified TRL/Sony DVP-NS900V
The review, or at a rave review by Clio09, is down below, 10-15 listings earlier. Good reading.
Looking for music that features congas, timbalis,
ck out Poncho Sanchez--jazz
Need help choosing a power amp
Second the recommendations to ck out Odyssey. Excellent amps.
How can I improve my Sony SCD-777ES for red book
I second Billspecfoc's recommendation. The VSE Level 5 mod takes the 777ES to an entirely difference arena of performance. I respectfully disagree with Billspecfoc in one respect---the SACD playback is transformed to level where it is as enjoyable...
