Advice wanted on mid range setup
I want to thank all the posters who have given me constructive input here. As usual, it is of incalculable benifit to build on the body of knowledge, rather than plod along in isolation. My stratagy, I think, will probably be to build from the cart...

Advice wanted on mid range setup
reb,Thanks for your ideas, i agree, i want to take as much gain as possible in the phono stage. Any one have any recommendations for very high gain, affordable (1 to 2 k used) tubed phono stages? Or will the very high gain part rule out use of tub...
Advice wanted on mid range setup
Ya know, $400 is what, 5% of 7k? Seriously, I don't think it would be a stretch to tell my wife I came in on budget. If +/- 5% is good enough for the electric utility, it's good enough for me.Still wondering about the ARC PH3, seems like the 54db ...
Advice wanted on mid range setup
Thanks for the ideas, I have been following some threads here and the Teres seems to come up a lot. Question: 65 db of gain seems like an awful lot to ask of tubes, I assume that careful selection of the actual tubes is a big consideration, microp...

Help in Selecting CD Player
If you can sacrifice the SACD, you might be able to pick up an Audio Research CD2 for about $1,500 or so. Smooth, liquid and musical, and built like the proverbial tank.
Most achingly-beautiful music
HmmBach - Chaconne fr Violin Partida # 2 as Played on Guitar by Andres Segovia. Taste, restraint, perfect technique. Segovia stretches the notes in a way that no one else dares.Mozart - "Martin aller Arten" from Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail as pl...
Classe owners: balanced vs. unbalanced?
I have a CA 301. When I first got the system, I noticed a bit of low level noise/hum. At first, I thought it was the tubes in the ARC LS16 pre-amp, so I switched them out. Then, I put in a dedicated line. Still had hum. I called up the dealer, ask...
Cable Costs Relative to System
The most perfect power cable is only as good as the romex in the wall!. I am sitting in front of my system right now (listening to a GREAt Oscar Peterson CD, I might add), contemplating a fancy power cord. My System is mid to lower cost for this h...
