What exactly is a speaker box sound?
The best way to explain this is with your EARS.  Go to a high-end shop.  Listen to the same source--one you believe you know well--on any and every box or horn or whatever speaker they have. THEN, listen to the same source on Magneplaner speakers...
So, I listened to a $1Million Dollar System
First, they are box speakers,so you lose.  Second, the room is more important than the system, so I have no idea what that was. Try some Maggies with quality ARC gear and play that same tune. SURPRISE! Cheers!
What Gear Has Disappointed You?
No particular order: Crown Amps--shrill and broke quickly Quad speakers--definition of "listening fatigue" Mark Levinson anything (1970's)--really bad sound from awesome components McIntosh anything--well, their scope thing is pretty cool to l...
Why do Tube Amps sound more romantic v SS amps
Let us not forget that ALL recordings are PROCESSED and have some relationship to the actual "live" performance, but not all of it. In the "old days," this processing took place on TUBE recording gear since that was all that was available.  When ...
Magnepan LRS in the house!
@allenf1963  That's a GREAT story. Makes me wonder how often that happened to customers I sold Maggies to in the 1970's-'80's from my shop. As I have posted many times before, after we locked the doors for the day, we took the opportunity to not ...
Magnepan LRS in the house!
@allenf1963 First, price has little to do with quality--i.e., lack of distortion and coloration in speakers. Second, Maggies are the only speaker I have ever heard that reproduce EXACTLY what you feed them, unlike any box or electrostat or horn(!...
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
Naw.  I just make large posters and write the price in BIG RED NUMBERS on them and hang them from each component. You know, subtle... Cheers!
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live
@dekay Sorry.  Slip of the typing finger.  1971, Bristol VA/TENN King College (now "University") concert.  We played a set, they played a set. Will promise to proofread my posts from now on!! Cheers!
Solid state to tube
Suggest you also try an ARC pre-amp if you can.  They have been "known" for building quality pre-amps since the early 1970's.  I recently bought a used SP-6A for about $800.00  It is miraculous, and I was using LUX tube pre-amps before that, which...
Car songs
Forgot one--one of my all time FAVS: Bruce Springsteen: "Stand On It"--a TRUE "Rockabilly" song if ever there was one...   AND, it was played in a hilarious film--Ruthless People
Large Advents (1974) woofer pops with deep bass.
Unfortunately, these speakers, as good as they were in those days, are really not very good.  BIG SURPRISE to me when I opened my shop in 1974 and thought they were AMAZING until I put almost any other speaker next to them  Box speakers have come...

Here's a few for the old-timers in the group: Chuck Berry: "Riding Along in My Automobile/No Particular Place to Go"  "Maybellene"  "You Can't Catch Me" Playmates: "Little Nash Rambler" Jan and Dean "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena Ronn...
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live
Recorded music is "processed" by the engineer and a BUNCH of equipment.  In the old days, it was mostly tube gear. If you are unfamiliar with that, visit an "old time" recording studio.  Digital music uses "chips" that process "bits" and drop many...
Tube preamp options
There is a reason ARC is known for pre-amps and has been since the 1970's.  At least try one out.  If you don't like it, try something else. Cheers!
how were copies of vinyl made in "third-party" countries
@bdp24 Has mentioned "cooldown time" which is VERY important. The shorter the time, as in most "pop" records back then, the worse the lasting power of the record. Longer times meant better quality, but when an album was popular, it had to be out "...
