50 years of Hip Hop- How Come?
Money.
Best turntable under $4000
I lost track of turntables long ago, but do remember that the Technics Direct Drive tables were considered wonderful back in the day (SP-10?) Sorry, I forgot the details. There is one for sale for $595 on one of the audio selling sites...sorry, c...
Best sounding FM table radio ever made...
That Tivoli radio bears a STRONG resemblance to the KLH radio mentioned earlier.  I agree that the KLH was an excellent item and if you can find one in good shape, worth the buy. I don't know anything about the TIVOLI, so others will have to co...
Speakers with deep/powerful bass
They were VERY well-known for bass, but when we built a couple of cabinets for  24" Hartley woofers for the Mark Levinson HQD system, we learned what REAL bass was in a relatively small room. No slam on CV's, but it you want REAL bass...get yours...
need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments
I might suggest you ask your dealer if he sells Audio Research amps.  They have been marketing under the slogan, "High Definition" since day one, and for good reason. After listening to it for a while you may not like it, but I suggest you give i...
Is there anything better than live recordings?
Well, I don't know about all live recordings, but the back-to-back guitar solos on the Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East in Stormy Monday are as good as any guitar solos get, and they were spontaneous. Cheers!
Speakers that are good with tubes
@carlsbad Those electrostatics are pictured under the definition of "listening fatigue" in the dictionary, I think. Still, a step up from any box. As for Maggies, do what I did with my customers back in the day. Have your dealer bring a pair out...
Speakers that are good with tubes
Not sure what amp you have, but if it is a good quality amp and you want to hear the music as it was recorded, Magneplaners are the only choice. If you don't really care about that, pretty much any quality box will do. Cheers!
Your thoughts/experience with very good, cheap tuners?
Both Onkyo and Yamaha made great tuners in the day.  Mc was also considered pretty good, but they are expensive used.  Onkyo T-9090 II or 4055 are probably pretty cheap used.  Check on AudioMart and you might find one. Yamaha had a T-2 that was a...
What are your top 3 favorite female singers?
@noske OK. Sure.
What are your top 3 favorite female singers?
Naturally, you meant to type "WHO" not "what" in your post.  People are generally referred to as WHO. If you mean ladies who can actually SING as opposed to belting out pop garbage: Linda Ronstadt Aretha Ella Cheers!
After fifty years… amazing. What high end audio can be.
Great thread!  As I always told my customers, if you love it, it is the best system there is! Brand names, etc., are interesting, but since it is all about the music, it really doesn't matter WHAT you have as long as it delights you every time yo...
Who says studio monitors are "cold and analytical"?
Well, not ALL studio monitors were "boxes."  It was kind of well known in the 1970's that SOME bands that were meticulous about every note did their final mix-downs on Magneplaner speakers. I guess, like in the 1960's where music was mixed down t...
Four Hour Tube Amp Warm-Up
I agree with @designsfx for ARC stuff.  A half hour definitely benefits it, but I live in SO FL where it is warm most of the time--NOT THIS WEEK! As far as hours and hours, I don't really notice much difference after a couple of albums. Cheers!
Convincing your local dealer to let you try speakers at home
First, we ALWAYS brought the item to the customer's home and set it up for him/her.  We MADE SURE it was working properly when we left, and yes, of course we took a check or credit card (things were slightly different in the "old days" of the 1970...
