What's the heaviest speaker you've ever owned? What's the tallest? Funny how box speaker makers now stack them to be very tall. Wonder where they got THAT idea (Magnepan)? So interesting to see this "evolution" happen... I guess Mr. Winey was on to something after all...
For classical music lovers best amp for large orchestral forces? @ghdprentice is totally correct. TRY it if you do not believe us. Regarding your box speakers, at the same time, ask your dealer to substitute a pair of Magnepan speakers for these and see if the orchestra does not move into your room with you. ...
Concerning high end audio names in new cars Car audio is pretty complicated. Licensing home audio companies to put their names on car audio systems is kind of a joke. I am sure the companies try to do whatever they can to help out, but no one gets into their car to listen critically to mu...
Albums you do not get...a plea for help and understanding @audioguy85 Really???The Captain and Tennille? Greatest band in history!! OK, laughing can stop. I must say, that in 1964 when my "very cool" fellow-freshman college roommate played the first Bob Dylan album for me I was kind of wondering what t...
Why are people paying these stupid tube prices? Tube Depot has KT150's for 144.95. They are Tung Sol, so not sure if they are good enough for your amp. Back in the day, we used 6550's, which were pretty good tubes, and KT88's as well. Tube Depot as those as well. Cheers! https://tubedepo...
klipshorn speakers Khorns and McIntosh--welcome to 1972! My suggestion is you go to a REAL audio store and listen to your fav tunes on a somewhat more modern system and react accordingly. And, there are still many who live in the 1970's and think these things are ...
Crutchfield Customer Service ALWAYS have bee this good. As a former dealer, I wish we could have had suppliers this good!
Whats on your turntable tonight? Emmylou Harris' Luxury Liner. Poncho and Lefty on Maggies with great Audio Research tube gear fills the room with beautiful music. Maria Muldar's Midnight at the Oasis is another wonderful album for my system and room. This is why I keep tell...
best amp for a Maggy 1.7i I think you will get the detail you want with a high-current tube amp that you will have to buy used at your price range. Unfortunately, most of those are about twice your budget. Maybe save up for a while and get what you NEED. You have the be...
Best Rock Drummers Well, when my brother took lessons from Gene Krupa and Cozy Cole in NYC at their studio in the late 1950's, they said that at 16, he was much better than either of them were at that age. Unfortunately, college and a degree in Theoretical Nuclear ...
Favorite religious song I like Onward, Christian Soldiers. Genocide in the name of Jesus--what could better represent today's American "christians?"
Do larger planar speakers produce more accurate sound? Well, I don’t know about all that, but I DO know that IN MY SHOP, we listened to every box, electrostat, etc. speaker available and the only ones that sounded like the instruments we were playing live were the Maggies. Yes, we played trumpet solo...
Cassette decks. How good can it get? @livin_262002 Thanks for that reminder. That does bring back some brain cells from back then. As an addendum, ALL the NAK decks broke pretty quickly after selling them. They fixed them for us, but it was a PIA for the customers who paid top ...
Cassette decks. How good can it get? Nak 1000 and Nak Dragon are about the best. Adjustable azimuth heads help. We hooked up the 1000, I think, and A-B’d it with the vinyl back in the day. Biggest difference was that the Nak added a hard-to-describe "hollow" sound to the playback. O...
Best double live vinyl? The Band--The Last Waltz Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East--This version of Stormy Monday has the best live back-to-back (organ in the middle) guitar solos ever recorded. Kinda hard to play as well...unless you are Duane and Dickie, that is..... |
