Shunyata or Transparent Power cables
Yeah, I've been using Anacondas of various generations for 10 years. Everytime I try something else, I usually keep coming back to Anacondas.

Well Jwm, i'm not sure how to respond to that because my problem with the PD was some slurryness and lack of focus in the mids and lower mids, not exactly a lack of body. But the EMM sound is full but not bloated, kind a just-right amount of body a...
Servicing amplifiers from very small companies?
Well that's fine, as I like tube preamps best and that's what I use. By the way, I heard the Atmasphere amps driving the TAD monitors at Axpona NYC last June -- really compelling sound going on there.

Had PD, 5400 (regular & modwright), Accuphase 75V, and EMM is the best for me, so I'm settled with EMM now (permanently I believe). EMM has the most reach and the most transparent, controlled, satisfying bass for me. (I even auditioned the Bur...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
Above, Georgelofi mentioned the Rothwell attenuators. I tried these (both XLR & RCA versions) trying to reduce the gain of my preamp and they sounded terrible, blunting things a lot.Am I doing something wrong? Any thoughts on if the Lightspeed...
Is this preamp mod to reduce gain advisable?
Thanks to everyone. This just a line-stage and headphone amp,no phono involved. I tried the Rothwell and other add-on attenuators and didn't like them at all; they dulled the sound (but they did solve the gain issue). Just looking for finer volume...

Thanks for the opinion Al. By the way, that's quite a hand-picked system you have there, very impressive. And congrats on the Ulysses speakers; I heard the the Daedalus RMa a few years back and have not forgotten how nice they sounded.

Thanks Swampwalker. I originally wanted to title the thread "What to do with paperweights?" but I like 'Boat Anchor' better.
Hi Fi Dealers in NYC - where to find them?
I'll 2nd Bill Parish at GTT. I've dealt with him and recommend him highly.
Cardas Golden Ref or the AU24e cables???
I used to have Cardas Golden Ref speaker cable with VSR speakers and the combo worked very nicely. I have used these cables with many speakers and they are nice, with smooth sound that is extended and detailed and refined but not too pushy. Very g...
Dude's 6SN7 replacements with Chinese CV-181/6SN7
For 6NS7s, I find the nicest highs/upper mids (fleshed out, not piercing or aggressive, but still with lots of detail and extension) are the RCA VT231 and the Brimar Black base ones, but the bass is soft on both of these with systems that are not ...
Dude's 6SN7 replacements with Chinese CV-181/6SN7
I'm trying the Sophia 6NS7 in my preamp/headphone amp and it's very nice, with air but not tipped up and very fine solid, transparent controlled bass.
power cable
After trying a whole bunch of cords, I always come back to Shunyata Anacondas of various generations, even the first generation which sometimes is best in certain applications. The CX is great on my power amp and my Hydra V-Ray, but the old VX is ...
Thoughts from Joule preamp owners?
Thanks Carl for all that; somehow the right equipment can coax some magic out of the worst recording I have found. Thanks for the Joule story!
Thoughts from Joule preamp owners?
Hey Car123, thanks for responding to my thread. I saw your comments from a few year about about Joni M. I've also been attached to Joni's Blue album for forever it seems.(And Court and Spark).(I suppose I can digress on my own thread.)
