Warm Rich Lush Speakers...Recommendations?
If that's what you want, absolutely Harbeths (I had SHL5s).But be careful what you wish for...I'm not sure I would say the same of Sonus Faber, as the highs can be very extended and even raw under some conditions with brighter solid state upstream...
Which Harbeth?
What is it about many on the Harbeth User's Group and a lot of Harbeth fans that makes them insult the entire universe of non-Harbeth speakers with all sorts of all-encompassing generalities?
i am looking to replace my Krell with tube amps,
What sonic changes are you hoping to achieve? I really like the combination of a great tube preamp with a solid state power amp. I get what I feel is tube magic with a solid foundation. Is there just something about the Krell you don't like?
Which Harbeth?
Don't buy Harbeths w/o listening to them (i.e., just based on their reputation). (Unless you buy them used and can resell them w/o much of a loss or if $$ is not an issue. They do resell quite easily.) Harbeths have a unique sound signature. Lot's...
small listening and speakers
Oh, and vocals? OMG, Stage Vocals are something incredibly amazing. The (1991!) Stereophile review (John Atkinson I think, but I may be wrong) said they convey the human voice better and more realistically than any speaker at any price. Hard to be...

Interesting that you mentioned the Apogee Stages. My room was a little bigger, but I had them on the long wall (just 18 inches from it) with only 8-feet between me and the speakers, so it was pretty nearfield. I never heard them boom, and I have ha...
Is upgrading worth it?
To my ears settling for an ancient cheap system for 50s, 60s, 70s music is absurd. It takes some work, but you can get amazing results that can magically turn old distorted CDs into gold without equalization or other evil tools. Supremes, Motown, ...
Am I going to blow my Apogees with all this power?
My apogee stages were driven just fine by a 200 wpc aragon 2008 amp (back in 1995). If the Centaur is anything like the stages, you will have speakers that can do the you-are-there thing like no other.
Anyone own or heard Edge i3?
I don't know, but I love my Edge NL12.
Lifespan of a quality solid state amplifier?
I had an AR receiver that worked for 35 years and was still working when I sold it. (Acoustic Research.)
Complete newbie needing guidance/purchase advice
Hey Stringreen, you owe it to yourself (if you have the funds) to try the Audeze LCD2s (or LCD3s). They are finally the next big advance to my ears (and many others on head fi) over the 650s (forget the HD800s, too treble-happy, like lots of flags...
The amazing new Marigo Evolution Signature Mat
Isn't there some chance of damage if you put a foreign object on top of a disc? There doesn't seem to be much space for anything in my EMM transport. I've always wondered about this with these mats.
SC's and IC's for Dynaudio C1 and JR Continuum 500
So Mr.Acoustat, if you know, what speaker cables to your friends with Indras/Sakra ICs use? Thanks in advance.I have the Stealth ICs but now would like something more affordable than the Stealth speaker cables.(For now, I'm using some old Synergis...
Are CD players dead
Yeah, I think I'll stick with my EMM before I surrender to the the iTunes tsunami.(And the spellchecker here capitalized the T in iTunes for me. That probably means it's so embedded in the culture it's the only way to go.)
Are CD players dead
What am I going to do with my 1000 CDs?
