From pass xa25 to krell k-300i
@bubba12  True, and I suppose I could even return the Pass. I hesitate because I feel like it's one of those cases of different-not-better. The Krell is a solid piece of kit.
From pass xa25 to krell k-300i
I am also interested in this comparison. Coincidentally, I have owned the Krell k-300i for just over a year and have lately been thinking about replacing it with either a Pass xa-25 or int-25. I opted for the non-dac Krell version because I have a...
Krell k-300i vs Rega Osiris, integrated
@yyzsantabarbara    On the k-300i, did you ever test the XLR vs RCA inputs? Was their any difference in sound quality?
Valvet with DAC for volume
I did call Albert a couple of weeks ago. By the stats alone, he thought they might be borderline. That's what the professional reviews say also, but Devores are almost linear at 8ohm are noted for being easy to drive. Bridging two of them would pr...
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC
@charles1dad  Agreed, the F8 isn't going to cut it. Besides, I want an amp that's going to drive the speakers well, not just adequately.   How about a Valvet E2/E3? Those are rated only 12w and 21 db gain, and supposedly are very powerful. Stil...
Krell k-300i vs Rega Osiris, integrated
@yyzsantabarbara  You're right, noise from the DAC is something to worry about. I'm trying to go smaller with the system, so I'd like to forgo a preamp. I know many people are having good luck with their DACs, but mine has a low voltage output, o...
Krell k-300i vs Rega Osiris, integrated
@akg_ca Thanks for this. I've read the reviews many times over. I love everything I'm seeing and hope to hear it someday. Let me know if you feel like the time has come to let it go.  😉
Krell k-300i vs Rega Osiris, integrated
#yyzsantabarbara I see in another thread that you have the Krell Duo 125 XD? What is your impression? Is it the same sound as the 300i, only "better"? This could be an option for me also if I could control it with my DAC volume.
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC
OK, the F8 isn't going to work. How about the J2 with 20 db gain? Do you think 20 db is sufficient?  don't want to get a preamp. My new mission is consolidation. I may need to either stick with integrateds or find speakers with higher efficiency. ...
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC
Aha. Would it be 1.414 VRMS unbalanced? It's the PS Audio Directstream DAC.
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC
The DAC output is 100 ohm unbalanced, 200 ohm balanced. I guess that's pretty good.
Valvet with DAC for volume
Thanks, riaa. I just sent him a message.  I'm trying to avoid an active pre or any pre at all. Ultimately the way my tastes are going, I think I may have to move to a highly efficient speaker.
Higher amperage fuse for sound quality
Pingstonsmile, even better, I located the stock fuse. Looks to be ceramic. Anyway, with this fuse, the sound was closer to the smaller HFT fuse than the larger. So the mystery remains. Why does the system sound different when just one upstream com...
Higher amperage fuse for sound quality
Pingstonsmile, in fact I did swap the fuses back and forth 2-3 times to confirm, and the results were the same. You might be right about the smaller fuse being compromised, but as for cold starts, I leave the transport powered on continuously, so ...
Higher amperage fuse for sound quality
Thanks for the comments. I am most definitely not looking for an excuse to use the higher amperage fuse. I am just wondering why it sounds this way. Both fuses are HFT, both clean and shiny. I bought the 3.15 a few months ago while the smaller fus...
