Best CD player under $25000.
"Actually I was noticing how many $25,000.or better CD players are available." Duh, is there a question in there somewhere?Perhaps Gs listens to both vinyl and digital and prefers vinyl, "most times." I guess I'll go over to the vinyl site now and...
Power cord replacement where first?
I'm surprised nobody suggested upgrading your power to your wall outlets first. Dedicated 20amp lines for amps and source will make a much bigger improvement than power cords.
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
Lula, JWM and I have made the same exact "upgrades" to our MW's as you; Audio Magic, new umbilical, NOS Mullard and Tungsols(black glass) and each change made for serious sonic improvements and were all worthwhile. That said, the "stock" MW still ...
Amp questions
Between the two, I'd go with the Krell. It's an oldie but goodie and I've heard it; sounds quite good. Also, it's built like a tank, if you ever need service you shouldn't have a problem then down the road, if you decide to sell it, you'll probabl...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
I too am using a 14 gauge Belden on the MW and it sounds fantastic. I've always heard the benefits of upgrading interconnects and speaker cables but have never been impressed by power cords, and I've tried many. Ain't no way a power cord is gonna ...
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
Dgarretson, great post! I see this tread has been running for a while so I might as well jump in.I'm one of those not so curious individuals who bought the 5400 and had it shipped direct to Modwright. I've heard several Sony ES players over the ye...
Pre Amp with top class phono stage?
I agree with the two Atma-Sphere recommendations. Ralph told me a while back his preamps were originally designed specifically for phono playback. He later added line inputs because of customer demand.I've had an MP-1 Mk3 for a couple years now an...
Amp advice sought for Coincident Total Victory
I tend to agree with both Sidssp and Mechans, either the Cary or AtmaSphere would give you the extra power to get the job done. The Cary would no doubt be warmer, sweeter and more "romantic" while the AtmaSphere would be way more transparent, faste...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Irish65,Thanks again for your comments. If I pursue the Dueland inductors, they will most definitely be Cast. Regards!
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Sorry the way my previous thread ended. I meant to hit "Preview first" but mistakenly hit "Submit". Hate when that happens! You don't have to convince me of the sonic merits of silver but the price of admission is a bit steep with Dueland. Heck I t...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Irish65,I understand what you're saying about the "current passing thru caps/inductors" causing some "vibration" though who knows how much it really comes into play with an external x-over? As for "soft annealed" copper, hey, what do I know? If it...
subwoofer for Maggie 20.1
A few years ago, I went over to a friend's house to hear his relatively new MG-20's. After a few tunes I noticed a couple boxes behind and to the far right and far left of each Maggie. I asked, "are those subs"? "Why with those big panels would yo...
Fried Monitor 7 Opinions
As I said, they're basically out of business! Both Jonathan Raines, President and David Finley, former Bud Fried employee, have always had "real jobs" and only did speakers part time. Bottom line though, the Monitor 7 is still a very good sounding...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Irish65,Yep, I'm using a .22mH inductor on the tweeter, the other is a .665. I know, everybody makes a .668 but a friend(he too rolls his own) and I decided after much listening, that we slightly preferred a value of .665 on the ScanSpeak. Alpha C...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Irish65, Thanks for your response. It was pretty much what I expected and as you say, one cap and a couple inductors in series, everything makes a difference and every change can be heard.I shudder to think what you spent on the Dueland silver pie...
