Fried Monitor 7 Opinions
I've been a Fried fan for many years and have always been a proponent of transmission line loading and 1st order series crossovers. If you can pick up the Monitor 7 at the right price, you won't be disappointed. Very open and detailed but with a sl...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Greetings, I've been following this thread, checking in every once in a while, and am wondering if some of you may have compared Mundorf foil, Goertz foil and the Duelands, all copper?I'm working on a couple speaker projects and already have Duela...
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
Hendrix from Red House, "if my baby don't love me no more, I know her sister will."
Modwright sony xa 5400cd
Hey, Trelja, yes all is well. Hope you can say the same. I didn't see much point in paying shipping to me for a brief audition then again to Modwright and once again back to me. In the end, I had great faith in Dan's ability to transform it from a...
Modwright sony xa 5400cd
If anyone is still following this thread, JWM and I have been good buddies for several years. I've heard his system(various systems) hundreds of times and know the sound well. About four months ago, I told JWM I intended to purchase the Modwright ...
Compatitble tube preamp w/Krell KMA-160's
I was going to suggest Convergent Audio w/phono which I've heard with various Krells, including the KMA-160's, and they do sound fabulous together. But... the suggestion for a somewhat current VAC might be even better since you could use XLR's whi...
Dynavector XV-1S impressions?
How many hours on the cartridge? What's the rest of your system? I've had and XV-1s for quite some time and wouldn't describe it as forward.
VTL amps warm up time
Having plenty of experience with several VTL amps, including the 450's, I'd say 45 minutes before they really start singing. Ditto for your other components, be they tubed or SS. Also, don't even think about biasing your 450's til they've been on ...
tonearms with VTA-towers for true "VTAF"
Rather than repeating what Atmasphere said above, I'll just add Ditto! The Tri-Planar is a wonderful sounding arm and a piece of cake to set up and adjust.
What do you see as the downside of tubes?
This thread has outlived it's usefulness and as Dan_ed points out, it's definitely gone "down the crapper" with Phd's asinine remarks. Maybe we should all scrap our inefficient gear and go with class D amps to save the planet. NOT!
Best Sounding Passive Preamp
Look for an EVS(Electronic Visionary Systems)passive produced by Rick Schultz some years back. It retailed for around $450 new and it's about as clean and transparent as you're going to get. I owned it, a couple Reference Line models, and an old M...
VTL MB250 sig or Nuforce Ref9 SE
Hi5, Glad to give you my 2 cents. While there are lots of choices and even more opinions, you really can't go wrong with the 250s. Regards
VTL MB250 sig or Nuforce Ref9 SE
No contest, go with the VTLs. I've owned and auditioned many SS and tube amps over the years and the MB-250 Sig's are still one of my favorites. Though I've heard many good SS amps, I've yet to hear one that competes with tubes when it comes to pu...
No phono input on Jadis but want to buy tunrtable
Check out The Needle Doctor. He's got lots of inexpensive gear and it's a good place to start. A friend of mine started there with a Bellari Phono stage and Music Hall table/arm/cartridge combo and was very pleased with the sound. You should get en...
What do you see as the downside of tubes?
I've owned some very good and quite expensive SS gear over the years but none of it has ever sounded(to my ears) as believable or satisfying as even modestly priced tube gear. Many years ago, after hearing so many good things about tubes, I decide...
