What’s the relationship between gain (dB) and power (watts)?
@erik_squires - Thank you. That’s helpful. Well, think about how much an amp can do. Amps can't have infinite power, or output voltage, right? They are limited devices. Every one of them. What limits them? Among many things, the voltage avail...
Harbeth 30.1, 30.2, XD
@arafiq No I haven't updated my system page yet... too many recent changes... and I don't even have the LS5/9s anymore... having upgraded in a big way to Graham's LS5/5s.  They are incredible, but LS5/9s would be my choice for a smaller room.
Harbeth 30.1, 30.2, XD
I was blown away when I first heard the 30.2 40th anniversary editions in my system.  Bought it on the spot. Then I was even more impressed by the Graham Audio version of the LS5/9, sold the Harbeths after extensive a/b testing. Much more open sou...
What’s the relationship between gain (dB) and power (watts)?
@rixthetrick - thank you sir!  Love your posts and will refer to them again as needed.Amplification can be somewhat described as if you had a small electrical signal controlling a valve on a larger electrical signal, as the smaller signal swings f...
What’s the relationship between gain (dB) and power (watts)?
@millercarbonGain is a multiplier, power is a ceiling.a ceiling of what, though?  Current?  Voltage?
Boy, Oh Boy! Towshend!
I don’t know when people started manufacturing these types of isolation devices for speakers.  Does anyone here know?  But it sure qualifies as a great leap in hifi audio history.  Possibly as big as any other recent speaker technology innovation....
What’s the relationship between gain (dB) and power (watts)?
@millercarbon - thank you.  I like this:That is the difference between power and gain. Gain is a multiplier. Power is a ceiling. You cannot get any more power from your amp no matter what gain you set it on.@timlub - thank you. This is helpful and...
What’s the relationship between gain (dB) and power (watts)?
Thanks everyone.  I like the gas pedal vs engine analogy.  But does a higher initial gain ultimately mean anything for the output of the amplifier (like higher possible SPL in dB for a given speaker)?
Why are Ayon tube amps not mentioned very often?
True. Lots of companies like that don’t get a lot of press or attention here. Maybe in Europe and asia its different?  What about octave audio in Germany?  Great stuff.  Tough sell here, though.  To sell in US at scale, you need some serious marke...

Congrats on the legal weed and cool tube amp!  A great combo...
Opinions on the ; Rosso Fiorentino Sienna or Volterra II Speakers
Interesting thread to read never having heard these speakers. Unpretentious and just get out of the way kind of sound.  I’d describe my new Graham Audio LS5/5s similarly.
ADD-POWR Wizard/Sorcer vs Puritan Audio Labs PSM136/156
Depends on what you're looking for with the sound.  I tried Add-Powr Sorcer and didn't like the effect it had.  Expanded the stage but had a blurring effect at the same time.  Took it out and the clarity returned.  At least in my system.
Has anyone compared the Terminator Plus to the Holo Audio May (KTE edition)?
While both use similar dac technology, they are apparently quite different in terms of their output voltages and other electrical characteristics which should be taken into account prior to purchase. Not all dacs go well with all preamps or other ...
High end streamer/server profound choice
Lucas Audio Lab can custom build a roon server/streamer to your system and budget.  He’ll also support you in optimizing it with updates in perpetuity. I have a lower end one ($3800) and will not be upgrading it again anytime soon.  Very honest, c...
ADD-POWR Wizard/Sorcer vs Puritan Audio Labs PSM136/156
The sorcer is not a conditioner, the Puritan is a conditioner.  Very different products.
