What was your biggest priority?
I let it be known to my friends that I am always willing to put a system together for them. This means I end up helping someone put a system together about once a month. No charges, just the fun of seeing what you can get out of a budget, and quit...
Review: Plinius 8200 Amplifier
I shall get my hands on some Knockando today as the cupboard is looking perilessly bare - and drink you a toast (or three) over some music tonight. If Lagavulin and Talisker are to your liking and so is Knockando, I am sure I will agree. Many thanks.
Discovering Lester Young
Many thanks Bomarc. That title rings a bell - I may be onto it at last.

Sherod - yes Tiger's caddie is from here. Kiwis are usually both fiercely independent and fiercely competitive. This is possibly why our ancestors went to precisely the other side of the world just to get away from the English. Poor old Tiger prob...
Reactions to HP's review of Antique Sound Lab amp?
Go look at http://www.high-endaudio.com/index_ac.html and look under the recommended amplifiers and you will see another view on these amps. Seems like even if Harry might have got a wee bit excited on this one, he has some justification.
Review: Plinius 8200 Amplifier
Well of course it is muscular, but yet with finesse. We are talking about a Kiwi amp here, not something from West Island (known as Australia to you). North and South Islanders (Kiwis) are typically just so. We of course do not enjoy such stratosp...
Discovering Lester Young
I had a wonderful LP of Lester on Verve, where he played the most beautiful and breathy clarinet on as many tracks that he played sax. It was no compilation, but a reissue of an old original LP. Since that collection (nearly 2,000 records) was sto...
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase
My wife thinks I write audio equipment reviews under the pseudonym "Jonathan Scull". The equipment just turns up on loan and it is my sad duty to listen to it at high volumes for hours then write about it and then a bunch of new stuff arrives. Tro...
Review: Plinius 8200 Amplifier
Hi 99. Yes I had read your earlier review. Living in NZ, and NZ being a very small place, I hear a lot of the "behind the scenes" gossip about how things have evolved at Plinius. One of their frustrations is the insatiable demands from the US to c...
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase
Hi guys. If you are as good at deceiving your wives as you are at fooling us, then that would explain the Bose systems.
Review: Plinius 8200 Amplifier
Just some quick "sound bites".. The MKII is a bit more lush and full than the MKI - neither better nor worse, in my opinion - despite the claims about the power supply. The MKI appears more neutral to me. All current Plinius models have a tendency...
Seeking Great Cool Runnin' SS Amp...
My biased viewpoint (in love with my SA102 - if anyone thinks it sounds like the SA100, they ain't heard it)concurs with Nalu.
I'm depressed, my system hurts my ears. Please help
It sounds like flutter echo to me. All sounds good, other than a shoutiness (ie. it sounds like mid-range performers and instruments are shouting at you). If you can put the system in another room for a day?Otherwise, set the system up for nearfie...
What preamp for my Shahinians?
Perhaps worth mentioning here that Peter Thompson voices his Plinius designs with Diapasons. So a CD-LAD and maybe even a SA-250 would seem worth a listen.
the listening room: "golden ratio"?
Hi Joeb. I am a bit late on this one, but thought it worth adding that the Golden Ratio is a way of fixing the natural problem of parallel walls and ceilings parallel to floors. But if you are building a separate unit (ie. your garage with room ov...
