Power DAC or dac+T-amp?
If you are running a mac as your source, you could get a very decent used receiver on this site, like a Denon or an Onkyo, and run an optical cable from the mac to the digital input on the receiver. This could give you pretty decent watts-per-chan...

PC audio with USB DAC
I knew that applied for digital coax, was not sure about USB, Steve. I have had recommendations for short-as-possible USB cable from other designers of USB/SPDIF converters. I've skimmed your white paper.
PC audio with USB DAC
Some thoughts:If all your music is on your hard drive, and you are working on your laptop while playing music through your USB DAC, I suggest you get the music off of your hard drive and onto an external drive, because your hard disc gets hit a lo...
PC audio with USB DAC
What are you using for music playback? ITunes? The best computer playback performance is attained when you can optimize the computer playing the music, and when you can dedicate the computer to only playing music. What operating system a you using...
Have you heard of EMOTIVA?
The guys in the emotiva room were also very friendly and glad to answer questions. Still the only room i've ever been in at RMAF that just hands you the remote. And I've been going to these shows since 2008. Always a pleasure visitng their room, b...
Which amp to upgrade my Rotel RB-1080?
There is a quad 909 on sale here, the description says something about the class a part controlling the class b part, or something. I'll start researching them. Does the quad 909 have a matching pre? i like my gear to match, it looks nicer. Their ...
difference in design between digital/analog cables
What I'm asking is, how does the different nature of a digital vs. analog signal affect the design of the cable?
connecting a sub to a 2-channel system
OK now that my sister has left, her visit ended, I returned the sub to the home theater system for our viewing of "snow white and the huntsman." I listened to my 2-channel system for about 2 hours last night and I think I miss the sub. It added so...
King of the one liners
My favorite Dangerfield: "I sat down at the bar, bartender says 'what'll ya have?' I say 'surprise me.' He shows me a naked picture of my sister."
HDMI switch box to one long run of HDMI cable
Recommend you run speaker cable that distance, not interconnect. Not totally sure about this, but I think you have a good chance of picking up EMI/RFI with interconnects that are that long, the voltages are not that high, you might also get signal...
This may be a dumb question...
I'm not an expert but I think you need to use iTunes to place and manage files onto an iPad, and I don't think Apple products can play FLAC, so you need to convert to a format Apple can play. Disclaimer: I'm a PC.
Why do digital coax cables matter?
From what I've read:Digital signals travel through the cable at very high frequencies, they are different from the signals that run through interconnects. High-frequency signals travel to the outside edges of a conductor, the "skin effect," and si...
connecting a sub to a 2-channel system
I think I know what was wrong, crossover was not set correctly, now the sub and speakers overlap pretty seamlessly. Thanks all.
connecting a sub to a 2-channel system
I'll try it tomorrow night with the sub turned off, see if that restores the Quads' ruler-flat mid-range. I feel like I am missing some detail in the mids, like the sub is covering it up or something. This is only temporary anyway, I miss the sub ...
