If i had the money.....
Tok2000, it isn't the amount of distortion as much as the nature of the distortion as tubes have 2nd and 3rd harmonics and not much else, certainly no higher order odd harmonics....Spectral analysis equates to what we hear fairly well.....You want...
$4500 amp beat out the Tenor OTL in the latest TAS
Kana813, just to set the record straight Carl Thompson and I were paid a flat amount as consultants to Parasound for voicing and board design of the JC-1....We do not work for them, but I became a dealer for the JC-1 last Fall....
$4500 amp beat out the Tenor OTL in the latest TAS
Fremer did a nice job on the JC-1 review....The amps are the best we can do in a machine made very powerful amplifier. Having these made by machine in Taiwan makes for an amplifier that is about 1/3 the cost of what it would be to build these here...
Has anyone upgraded power cord connectors?
David d, I make my living primarily on TG power cords.....A DIY version of the TG cords would be hard to make as the wire and connectors are either modified significantly or built to my specs....The Belden 19364 recipe I published some time ago wi...
$4500 amp beat out the Tenor OTL in the latest TAS
OTL amps, the Tenor in this case, just will not do much in the way of current and I imagine the Hurricane will.....Sounds like a mismatch of speakers to me and this was reported on by Sue Kraft in TAS in her further thoughts on the Tenors....The T...
Has anyone upgraded power cord connectors?
David d, I don't know where you find copper AC connectors as the better ones all seem to be Olin 688 brass, an alloy which is about 73-75% copper.....The problem with most of these is that the screws and tines on the neutral side are nickel plated...
Sonic impressions of TG Audio 688 power cord?
Claud, sounds like the 688s aren't broken in all the way as biggest difference is the focus of the SLVR over the 688 here....There are enough mechanical differences between the 688 and SLVR that I can't easily update the 688s to SLVRs and don't of...
Has anyone upgraded power cord connectors?
Subaruguru, I beg to differ as the connectors make up at least fifty percent of the "sound" of a power inlet cord.
If i had the money.....
The bias switch is on the back and reduces the bias to the output stage....Most folks leave the amps on in low bias and then flip the switches to high bias when they are ready to do serious listening saving on the electric bill....Yes, CTC Builder...
If i had the money.....
Superior Electric posts looks "generic" as everyone copied the design and these are available in Taiwan for 1/5th the pricing of the Superiors....I used the "real" thing and this was the only thing Richard Schram, head of Parasound, made a point o...
If i had the money.....
Sean, the first thing to go would be the binding posts? I chose the Superior Electric as they are the best sounding as well as the most rugged of all the ones available.....I have run four of the JC-1s on one twenty amp circuit and have had no pro...
Best power for 10,000
Ludoe, there are better sounding amps out there than the Pass 600s doing the comparisons using Avalon Osiris and Sound Lab Ultimate One speakers....
Best phono pre-amp
Real world means long term reliability to me....I've used an updated Vendetta phono stage for fourteen years without a glitch.....It still measures 85dB S/N and does just fine in comparison to anything out there...I recall the Boulder measured 47d...
What exactly is the ICE module in digital amps?
Sean, Parasound send me a 250w unit about a year and a half ago to evaluate and recall the stereo board was maybe 6" x 8" and had a huge transformer that came separate and plugged into the board....Input and output jacks were on the board BTW........
Would like to start a Stereo Club in the midwest.
Sounds exactly like what dealers are supposed to do rather than sell sealed boxes.....Saturday afternoon late through Tuesday Noon the gear would disappear from the dealers racks and either be purchased or returned.....
