Record Cleaning Machines - VPI vs. Nitty Gritty
My preference is the VPI 16.5, principally if you have a lot of older, filthy vinyl to clean, as you can really give it a good scrubbing with that brush. Easier to use, too, as Alexc notes. My brother is quite happy with his Nitty Gritty I gave hi...
Stick with.. KMA-100'sMKII or go for KMA-160's ???
I'd agree with Abstract 7; in addition, I'd say if you can get MDA 300s, they'd be even better, as they were sweeter and smoother on top than the KMA 160s with more power and bass control.
scd 777es sacd sony mod worth it?
Detlof, although I know my answer to this question (I haven't sold the Forsell/Purcell/Audio Logic 2400), how does your modded 777 sound on Redbook CD? Are the mods that good that they make regular CDs listenable to you? And I can see you have my ...
Siltech G5 against the rest of the world.
Tekunda, fight the urge! What would you do when Gen 6 gets released by Siltech??? How do you think those Gen 3 owners who bought their cable for life feel now??? Seriously, though, I think Plato's and rgd's points are well-taken. I don't believe, ...
scd 777es sacd sony mod worth it?
Well Detloff, I'm glad to see you got your player back and that the mod seems to be worth the money. Let me know if you agree or disagree with me about how SACD done right stacks up to vinyl. I recently upgraded my Ovation with the Debut platter/b...
Five amps that you want to try at home?
I would want to hear the Lamm ML1, Audio Research Ref 300 MkII, Jadis JA200, Halcro and Atmasphere MA 2 amps in my system. Gotta be monoblocs to work in my system. Two weeks is too short for this test, though--I'd need at least 5 years to thorough...
unamplified orchestras or bands?
The simple answer to your question, at least with orchestras and certainly in the 18th and 19th centuries, in addition to what J k mentions is that the conductor of the orchestra is there, in part, to make sure of the proper balance of the instrum...
Ideas for something to hold LPs ??
Per Madsen Audio Designs in San Francisco area. Check the ad in TAS or Stereophile for the number. Nice, stackable wood racks; can also combine them with his CD drawers.
DVD-A WIZ-Bang-Boom
Plato, having heard your two-channel rig (particularly the vinyl playback), I don't see why you'd spend any time listening to the HT setup! I will note that there is quite a bit of new classical and jazz coming out on SACD these days (and not just...
DVD-A WIZ-Bang-Boom
Plato: As you know, I have both SACD and DVD-Video set-ups in my home system, and while I love SACD, based on my listening with the Classic and Chesky DADs and SACDs, I could be happy with either of those formats over CD. What I do not like about ...
What makes the telefuken tube so special?
Add longevity too, at least for the earlier ones. To my ears, the Teles are a sonically balanced tube, not favoring any frequency range over another. They sound glorious in Jadis equipment, much as Rayhall and Xon57 described. I have used them and...
Would You Pay to Listen?
No. I'd rather spend the money on a live concert. Why settle for a pale imitation of the real thing, no matter how good the system?
Girlfriend's mom threw my Cardas out with trash
The woman is obviously an audio reviewer and thought that Nordost Blue Heaven is what your system needs? Seriously, sorry to hear about this one. How does someone throw out something like that, which is still in its packing?
Life span of tubes?
Detlof, that's because I'm hoarding over 50 of them! Told you I had a lifetime supply......
Life span of tubes?
Depends on the brand (I'm assuming you mean KT88s here). The Svetlanas probably are in the $30-40 range, I think, from what I've seen on the 'Gon classifieds. Not sure about the Teslas and Chinese tubes, but probably similar, maybe a little less f...
