Altis Centauri Transport? For those of you who own Altis products, I know that Jerry Ozment services the DACs. You can reach him at 203-966-1732.
are Red Rose speakers any good? I think they sound surprisingly good with tubed equipment, particularly the earlier Red Rose/AudioPrism amps and preamp. Their ribbon tweeter really is something special.
Amps that will accept wide variety of tubes? Jadis JA30, 80 and 200. I believe that some Cary amps can use multiple types of tubes, and the Rogue amps can take either KT88s or 6550s, not sure about other types.
Audio Note, Audio Logic, Kora Hermes Dacs ? Pat, that's pretty much correct--he's keeping the 6DJ8s in the circuit, but the 12AU7s are the tubes that most affect the sound of the unit. I have other tubes throughout the system which I can use to tailor the sound to my liking, so I still have...
Audio Note, Audio Logic, Kora Hermes Dacs ? As an Audio Logic owner, I can tell you its strengths are all of the items you list, particularly with respect to natural dynamics and dimensionality. There is an "aliveness" to the unit that makes most other DACs I've heard sound sterile and life...
24/96 DAC + DVD Player - Help There are a number of threads on this, so you should check the archives as well as any responses here. Basically, not all DVD players have a coaxial digital output which will output a 24 bit/96khz data stream. Most of the Pioneer units did, and my...
Best performances of Handel's "Water music"? I second the McGegan, superb performance and sound, but be forewarned, it is very fast-paced, faster than most conductors take the piece. Pinnock/English Concert on Archiv is another one I like a lot, probably because it was the first version I re...
May I add a subwoofer to stereo system? I've had three friends who recently added powered subwoofers to (1) inexpensive Mordaunt Short small speakers, (2) Dunlavy SC-1s and (3) Martin Logan Prodigy's. In each case there was a fair amount of work necessary to properly integrate the sub i...
Would sand help my amp? Assuming you're talking a solid state amp, the problem I'd see here is heat dissipation, whether via external or internal heatsinks; you might melt all your circuitry. I'll leave it to the more qualified persons to comment. If you put the thing on...
Tube Preamps under $10k with deep bass extension Lamm's LL2, while perhaps just a little full in the mid-bass (not at all unpleasant, and you only really notice it compared to its bigger brother, the L2), has excellent low frequency extension and is a bargain in the used market. Get the Deluxe v...
Best Respighi Pines of Rome Come over some time, Rick, I'll let you hear them both!
Best Respighi Pines of Rome The Decca has been reissued by Speakers Corner, I believe. Got one coming to me. Also have the UHQR of this recording, will be interesting to compare and see how much MFSL jacked up the bass. I also prefer the Reiner recording (the Classic reissue...
Warm and Wet cables? Sonoran cables, at least the older ones, would seem to be worth considering, as would the Harmonic Technologies. I would not necessarily go for the NBS Monitor (or Omega) line, but rather for the Statement and other named lines, which are a little...
Tube amp for ML Prodigy's A friend of mine has had very good results using VTL 450 monoblocs with his Prodigy's.
Review: Sony SC-D777es CD Player Edorr: Funny you should mention having three transports, that's what I have too! And I really only listen to a couple of DADs too-I'm very frustrated that format never got off the ground.I didn't have the transport modified, mainly because I had t... |
