Preamp for Jadis Orchestra Ref
I would strongly advise against using a preamp with your unit, it has a preamp built in, and a very good one at that. In my view there is no sense in adding another gain stage, with its consequent losses due to interconnects, circuitry, etc. If yo...
Problem with my Sony SCD-777ES
Looks like you've got the same problem as noted above. In my case, it finally started happening, but a simple cleaning of the mechanism (which I had done at the same time as some upgrades from Richard Kern) fixed the problem for me. Others have no...
Using tube preamp for a phono preamp
Agree on all counts with Rushton, especially about listening to the CJ/Counterpoint on its own.
Looking for a tube DAC.
George: You're right about Musical Fidelity, but MFSL is actually back in business, albeit on a limited scale.
Looking for a tube DAC.
For a more "tube" and beautiful sound, the pricier Audio Notes, the Audio Aero and older Audio Logics are good choices; the newer versions of the Audio Logic are my choice, but you lose a little bass warmth in them compared with the older versions...
Where do I go from here, keep it clean
A very nice system, one that you must enjoy a lot! While I think the TT/cartridge could well be upgraded, the older SOTAs had a liveliness to them that the more expensive TTs lose a little of, so I'd resist that change except perhaps to go further...
When your preamp doesn't match your amp
I'll defer to the more technically-oriented, but I believe a major symptom of an impedance mismatch is a rolling off of the highs.
Review: Audio Logic 2400 DA converter
George: The version I have originally used Mullard/Brimar(?) 12AU7s and Sovtek 6922s. Jerry always liked this combination, but I felt it was a bit too bright for my tastes, so I switched to Telefunkens, which eliminated the brightness/glare I hear...
Amp recommendation for Dunlavy SC V
Check the archives, there have been a number of threads in the pastfew years on this, with a number of SC V owners chiming in. I seem to recall the Aloia amps being favored by a number of users. My favorites that my dealer used to use were the VTL...
What tubes and power cord on the Audiologic 24MXL?
It does take a while, if the new unit still uses the MIT Multicaps that the 34 and 2400s did--they take forever, seemingly, to break in. Can't tell you with my unit, which was a demo, though it still needed a few weeks after I got it even after ha...
Dumb question..but just wondering ?????
Considering the thinness of the wood veneer on most speakers, I would doubt it would have any effect on sound as it aged. However, those few speakers with solid wood enclosures (as opposed to mdf or synthetic ones) most certainly should age, in th...
What tubes and power cord on the Audiologic 24MXL?
As mentioned in another thread, I like Telefunken and Siemens Ccas in my unit--the stock Sovteks kept going bad too fast. They seem to give a balanced sound to the unit overall, and I've always liked the Telefunken sound anyway. For power cords, I...
Review: Audio Logic 2400 DA converter
I've been using Siemens Ccas in the DAC and Telefunken Ccas in the little box attached to my modded Sony SCD 777ES (same output stage as the Audio Logic) to good effect. There are a lot of people who like Philips or NOS Sylvanias as well. Joe Kuba...
Where R U?????
The drive is very easy--45 minutes for me to get to work here in Red Bank from Glen Ridge. Great town, too, whl248--you should make a point of visiting those relatives!
More Sources than Inputs
Monster Cable (and others I'm sure) makes two-input RCA adapters that can allow two of your sources to feed one input. I had this problem at one point and didn't go with this solution (got a preamp with plenty of inputs) because I was concerned I ...
