Question regarding reputation of SOTA tables Sota is one of the oldest "hi end" turntable manufacturers still around. Their support is excellent (if a little slow sometimes) They dont kiss asses and wine dine at trade shows so the reviewers ignore them. Look at the table feature by feature. ...
Automatic Cueing and Automatic Return There are some, like Dougdeacon whos hearing is so acute that they can detect infinitesimal disturbances in vinyl reproduction whether it be a dust particle in the vicinity of the system, the speed fluctuation of stylus drag or the gravitational e...
JMW 10.5 vs SME V Please follow up, Id like to know what damping fluid you use and if it works better.
JMW 10.5 vs SME V The cue lever on the V has to be left in the rest position when not in use. It is slow and I have found extra sticky when its cold. The comparison of the two arms is system dependent. A VPI arm should be ideal for a VPI table but now the cartridge...
thinking about ripping some vinyl any suugestions? I use an E-Mu 1212 which comes with Wave Lab Lite. It has bal or unbal line in and out and comes with a software signal router. Im using Express Burn for burning. I am not very computer savy but I still found this system intuitive and easy to run....
What would you chose? VPI MKIII vs. Linn LP-12 VPI, although I agree with Thom the Merrill/AR will outperform both.
Why do mint-looking LPs sometimes play poorly? Some vinyl formulations are inherently noisy
Ever so slight platter wobble "You ultimately get what you pay for, Chinese manufacturing quality is a crapshoot." would that be the same chinese manufacturing as the a fore mentioned VPI and Teres?
Good beginer table, that I can upgrade? You could find a technics 1200 and do kab mods over time or an ar es1 which you can then do the ms mods to. Either deck can provide extremely high performance when dialed in.
Time to move on from my old SOTA ? If its in your budget have Kirk bring it up to new spec. What has been said about 80's technology is silly. It was ahead of its time with a jeweled bearing, pendulum suspension, excellent motor etc. Not much out there can beat it refurbed without ...
step up transformer for clearaudio Im using a peerless 4722 with my stradivari which mathematically should overload the preamp input but with the tube pre's Ive tried it with it works great and sounds great. I have found that it overloads all the SS units Ive tried it with though.
Anyone Heard the New Soundsmith Sussurro Cartridge I heard them both at RMAF. Got to spend a quiet 40mins in Peter's room at the end of the show sunday. I agree it is hard to tell on small 2 ways and unfamiliar equipment but I felt it was the best vinyl sound I heard that weekend and tended toward...
RMAF 2009 Analog Report + Meet and Greet Soundsmiths vinyl playback was outstanding and to my ears the best of the show. Peter was very accommodating and genuine. Hearing vinyl spun on the musical surroundings setup was also a treat. There were many great vinyl setups.
SME IV vs V Valves, I am using a clearaudio stradivari. It seemed to track a little better in the V and a have a little more detail in the highs. I also could be imagining it as those differences were subtle. I used several preamps. I had also used several ot...
SME IV vs V I had both and agree the differences arent to big |
